Loan market

Postby DefinitionofX » Fri Sep 20, 2013 8:26 pm

In the words of David Pleat sides like Man City stock up on youngsters for fun. Chelsea had 40 odd players out on loan last year yet we never seem to get players from such sides. Smaller clubs do though. Why is this?

Its something that has bugged me a bit too. We are very close to Arsenal. Chelsea, Spurs, for example, that there has to be at least one player willing to make the short trip down to Priestfield for first team action?

I am amazed that Scally does not go to clubs like West Ham, Spurs, OPR, and get players, we could happily go with 15 of our own on contract and use loan players to boost the squad, even if they only come for 1 or 2 months at a time. Of course most of them want paying for playing, think that may be the problem.

It will be the cost no doubt about it. Also you can't imagine Scally being the kind of negotiator big clubs are likely to form a relationship with. If we get to ten league games without a win you would think some decisive action has to be taken but that assumes Scally has an interest in football not just personal income.

I do wish we could sign players more on loan from Clubs like Spurs,West Ham,Arsenal,Chelsea etc. When Stimson was here we loaned Barcham who turned out to be a permanent signing, and Leigh Mills from Spurs who didn`t do too badly for us.Allen said after the Swindon game that he tried to sign a few of Spurs players who are on loan at Swindon, but they would not let him have them.

It does seem odd, especially when sides lower than or much smaller budget-wise often can. As Scally is good friends with the West Ham owners I am very surprised we didn't become a feeder club of sorts for them.
