Who Should Be The Gills Captain?

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Mon Jul 21, 2014 5:48 pm

Who do you think should be the new Gills Captain? I don`t think Barrett should have the armband because I don`t think he will play every game.I think either Loft or Kedwell should be Captain,Loft has the experience of being a good Captain at Port Vale, and Kedwell would not put up with poor performances.I also think he would be even more determined to play well.

So far in the pre-season friendlies Adam Barrett and Doug Loft have been wearing The Captain's Armband so it is between those two, and whoever misses out will be named as Vice-Captain.

I heard Nelson's name mentioned but I hate 'keepers as captains! I guess Barrett will be less involved this season so if a new captain is sought after then Loft seems a worthy candidate. Personally I would love to see Kedwell as captain. Few go far and above what is required during a match like he does and being a Gills fan too would be inspirational to young players coming through as well as senior players who would hopefully give more following his example.

Doug Loft refused to be drawn on whether he will be taking the captain’s armband this coming season.

I still think it is between Doug Loft and Adam Barrett for The Captain's Armband, Peter Taylor will probably not make a decision on who is our new Captain until 2PM before we play MK Dons.

I wonder if he will do the "team" and "club" captain thing like we did with Frampton. Give Barrett the club captain title and the team one to Loft (or Kedwell I think would be good).

Bit of a surprise to do it now. I guess there is a strong possibility he will start the season with us and if he ends up as a bench warmer it was because he didn't find a club elsewhere. It's not as if he would be the type that would be highly sought after. As a player that barely missed a minute in his Gills career I would have thought he would still be the cover required.

I`m sad to see Barrett has been Transfer listed, but some of the performances from him last season were not good enough.Age looks to be catching up with him.In Barrett`s first season he was fantastic and Captained us to our first League Title in 50 years.I would like to see Barrett stay whether that is starting on the bench,or coaching on the bench with instructions. We could use Barrett as a Player coach, but Barrett is the type of player that will want to play as many games as he can.I think he will go to Southend on loan where he is regarded as a Legend.
