Josh Stanford - Not to be given contract

I thought Josh Stanford had done enough to earn himself a professional contract at Gillingham, he did not look out of place in any of the pre-season friendlies I saw Josh Stanford play in (Folkestone Invicta, Bromley, Welling United and Dartford), the effort and commitment was there in every game and Stanford looked composed on the ball.

The one thing Josh Stanford did not have was the blistering pace to go past someone and that is what Jermaine McGlashan and Brennan Dickenson have in there disposal, my own personal opinion is that Peter Taylor will line up with a 4.2.3.1 formation and to make this formation workable you need two wingers on both flanks who can get up and down depending on whether we're attacking or defending, this might explain why there is no contract offer on the table for Josh Stanford.

I wish Josh Stanford all the best where-ever he ends up next, hopefully this four week trial at Gillingham will see someone at Conference National / Conference South Level offer Josh Stanford a contract.

A shame for Stanford who worked really hard in the games he played for us on Trial. He is obviously better than the Southern Counties League,so hopefully he can get a Conference South Club.

It seems some do well and still don't get a deal as they don't have a space for them or similar reasons which begs the question as to why are there in the first place? Perhaps it is more to do with getting them some key work over the summer and potentially end up at a team they played against. Otherwise it all seems a bit futile. I see the defender has also been let go with Taylor looking at other areas so it seems it always a case of getting others first until the spaces were filled.
