Good start, did we put a first team out there or was it mainly the new players and reserves, with a few established players thrown in ??

In the first half we played more of the younger players with a few first Teamers in there, but in the second half it was a strong Team.

Already a better start than last season, we had a terrible preseason that continued into the start of the league campaign. Hopefully a good few results under our belt and get the new players firing might get a fairly decent start. Unless we crash and burn, even an average season with a few extra wins at the start should see a mid-table finish. And what with players playing in a system Peter Taylor wants without having to make do should earn a couple more. I don't expect to push for playoffs this season but a top 10 would be fantastic progress.

I have always believed that winning games in pre-season gives you a winning habit to take into the new season. It doesn`t always work that way,but if you win 5 out of 6 matches you surely gain confidence from that.Last season`s pre-season was poor, and we took that form into the season. The year we won the Title we had a great pre-season and beat Charlton at home in pre-season,then hit the ground running.

Bromley is up next on Tuesday night,so hopefully another win and of course no injuries.

Lee, do you think we did what was required or looked clearly the league side? It sounds like we were in control largely when previously we have struggled somewhat in these games. Interesting that Loft was in the middle! I wondered that in a post last week, having Dack and McGlashan on the flanks but then changed my mind. Might be that way after all then!

Gills beat Bromley 2-0 this evening.Kedwell scored a penalty, and Dickenson scored the second after he was set up by the impressive McGlashan.Good to carry on the winning habit, and avoid any injuries like previous years at Bromley.

The Gills play their next Friendly on Saturday at Welling Utd,which is a 3:00pm KO.

Well Ms Fanny Mulligan, that is one hell of a blog, never read a report with such detail, you missed out the number of blade of grass on the pich but apart from that it was incredible.
The penultimate picture with Scally descending in a blaze of fire from the sky, just brilliant, could not see him in person but I am sure that is him.
Congratulations Ms.Fanny Mulligan,wonderful, just wonderful.

Terrific report from Fan of Mulligan, just what we need. Keep that up and I won't bother going on the Gills web page. Even 1066 was impressed and that's high praise indeed.

This brings up the question Rob made a couple of weeks ago about the main site. I understand why certain things must be prioritised for those that pay for the Gills Player but then other times news just seems to be missing. We have had match reports on there but there was so much more information in the blog at a time when everybody is clamouring to know every detail about the players - especially when we have so many!

When it comes to players from other clubs I am terrible, can't remember hardly any who play against us (unless they do something really bad or great) so people like Lee are the only source sometimes. Mind you the club did post Doug Loft's goals which was a bit different, looks to be a very good signing indeed.

I think the superior fitness and having the luxury to change our entire eleven was a clear factor in our win against Folkestone Invicta, I think there was a bit of both in that we looked the league side and we also did what we required but the first pre-season game is usually about easing the players back into a match day environment again, and because of that passes were misplaced and we are defiantly no-where our maximum fitness wise either.

It helps when you can bring on McGlashan, Dickenson, McDonald, Norris and Loft for The Second Half, Had it not been for Tim Roberts we could of won 6 - 1 against Folkestone Invicta, but the result in pre-season is not the be all and end all, making sure we don't pick up any injuries and we're fit for the start of the season is what we need to use pre-season for.

Easy boys and girls ,I know it is the start of the season and were all excited but hang on we played Folkstone Invicta, thats Folkstone Invicta not Fulham, not Forest or even Fleetwood Town ( no more F's) lol, so lets keep our feet on the ground, there what 6 or 7 divisions below us with garden sheds at one end of the ground.
I know a win is a win and that's good but it's not really worth popping the champagne corks just yet.

Of course you are right but I am comparing with last season really. The last 6 results went 1-2 v Ipswich, 1-3 v Millwall, 0-3 v Palace, 1-1 v New York Cosmos, 0-3 v Woking and 2-4 v Maidenhead. The Woking one at least would be on a similar level to Bromley and Maidenhead to Folkestone so on that basis it's a decent start. We seemed quite good for it as well.
