Antonio German is pushing his way into Peter Taylor’s plans.

I think this is a big season for Antonio German as he has one year left on his current contract, another season like last season and Antonio German will be sent out on loan and released, but if Antonio German can put in his recent performances against Welling United and Dartford on a more consistent basis then we will have a player who is finally fulfilling that potential, German is running in behind more and his goals against Dartford and Welling United are proof of this, hopefully we see Antonio German play like this during the 2014 / 2015 season.

I kind of think of him in the Dennis Oli bracket, capable of the odd bit of brilliance which then makes you wonder why you never saw any more in subsequent games. Having said that German appears to be regarded higher than that and perhaps barely starting a game didn't help his cause last season. We need every player firing, we had too many that we knew couldn't step up to the mark last season so lets hope he has got over his nerves and is focused on making a position his. Ironically Mad Dog brought him here and spoke very highly of him but I think Peter Taylor would be more likely to get the best out of him.

We will see, don't think he is what we thought he was going to be and Taylor won't keep him around after Christmas if he is not doing well . Can we really compare Welling and Dartford to say Sheffield Utd and Peterborough ?? Good job we don't play them this year.

Sorry mate thought I was being clever, after your "gushings" on Sheffield last year I naturally assumed they had been promoted, haha, just a little dig, lol, lol. Actually I think there going to go up this year, both teams and maybe THE GILLS as well lol.
Have they had any of the friendly's from the US been on TV in England ?? Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs,Arsenal all over here playing, Spurs played in front of 55,000 people in Seattle last week ,not a bad crowd for a sport that ranks sixth after NFL, (Go Bears), Collage Football ( GO Wildcats) Baseball, (Go Cubs) Hockey,(Go Blackhawks) and Basketball.(Go Bulls) and if you went to every home game in Chicago of those five sports with average price seats I think it worked out something like $15,000 a year for season tickets , need to get her at home another job, lol.
Good game between Chicago Fire and Spurs last night, I honestly think most MLS teams would be scattered around the Championship and the top third of the 1st Division if they played in England.
Hope the Gills get off to a flyer this year, I hate playing catch up, think we could easily get 10 points out of August, but it's later in the season that worries me a bit, February and March look to have some pretty tough back to back games in them, so it would be nice to go into 2015 with 35 or so points already in the bag.

Following up on what you said about the quality of the football in America 1066, I think I would agree. West Ham are doing a tour out here in Oz. They lost 1-0 to Wellington Phoenix and 3-1 to Sydney. Perth Glory just drew 1-1 with Malaga on Saturday. I know you can't place too much credence on friendlies but I reckon the top half of the A-League would sit comfortably in the Championship league. The bottom half of our league would probably be in the relegation fight. We obviously see the English football here but we also see quite a bit of the MLS as well. I think we're pretty even. One thing for sure, we are improving every year.

Chicago, what is the feeling around the US after the World Cup? I kept hearing that the American's were really getting behind it and why now? 4 years ago the Beckham effect was there as well as a number of other superstars but something seems to have clicked into gear. Only 125 years late but better than never ;-)

PS - I believe Sky are showing some friendlies but haven't watched any. Barely getting time to watch the Commonwealth Games.

To be honest Bunbury I do not think you can read too much into the friendlies at all.

QPR drew with Leyton Orient etc etc..........Most of hte teams at the moment are still on the match fitness part of training rather than looking for play etc etc

It's so hard to judge what people think of footie over here, if you stood in the street and asked a 100 people what they thought of the World Cup and did they watch it, probably 60% would say yes I saw some of the games or parts of a game but if you asked which game and who they were playing what the score was most would probably just shrug their shoulders and say I can not remember.
The one thing you must remember in the major city's like Chicago ,NYC, LA, most MLS teams are supported by a majority of people NOT born in the USA. Here at Toyota Park which has gates in the region of 15/ 19,000, probably 6/8 thousand are of Mexican heritage, 3 or 4 thousand are from Europe,( loads from the country's that make up the old Yugoslavia ) and 5 or 6 thousand are American kids that either play in school, or did play in school or collage and there dad and family.
I don't think soccer is ever going to take over as THE sport of choice for Americans, Basket ball, and American Football will always be the sports of choice, thats if kids continue playing sport, seems that you never see the kids doing much but pushing buttons at a 100 mph on their mobiles. so ?? lol.

It`s good to see German has come back with the right attitude, and scoring goals. Will Taylor pick German ahead of Cody though? I know Cody has not scored any goals in pre-season,but he scored 17 goals in League one last season.A couple of goals for German against Ebbsfleet on Saturday might sway Taylor`s decision though.

Great to have players all seemingly capable. It's been a while since we relied solely on the front two with one other that comes on to save legs.
