I thought I would create this thread which focuses on Gillingham's Reserve Team, as we're back in The Reserve League again this season.

Gillingham are in an eight-team division and they will compete in league and cup games, with most home matches taking place at the club’s training ground.

I thought Gillingham were going to play Reserve Matches back at Priestfield Stadium again ???

We played half the first team and still managed to lose to Cambridge under 14's, that bodes well for the future, lol.

I asked in The Ticket Office before Gillingham's 3 - 0 defeat against Scunthorpe United if they knew they dates and times for Gillingham's Reserve Fixtures this season and no-one could give me a response because The Reserve Fixtures do change day and venue at the last minute, but I thought it was worth asking in-case anyone The Ticket Office in-case they knew.

Is it free to go and watch ? We used to go to the field by the big white War Memorial on the "Lines" is that what it was called,where they held the circus and across the field from Upbury Manor School ? Used to watch the Gills reserves play there on a Saturday morning, me some friends and perhaps 20 other homeless waifs and strays, lol.

As I was off I intended taking my little boy to reserve games as it gave him a taste of it in the stadium but it was stopped soon after (he is at school now so no point). I think it may have been a couple of quid and free for ST holders, always worth doing as there are plenty of people that have a Wednesday (as an example) as a day off and would like to see the next crop come through.

Think it was the youth team that you used to go and watch by the Lines , 1066 . The spot you're suggesting is also the pitch that was used by Arden Street when I was there for those in the third and fourth years ( years 5 and 6 as they are called now in the UK ) .

In the sixties , which I assume you're talking about as you left these shores in 1971 ( ? ) , the Reserves played at Priestfield Stadium on alternate Saturdays to the first team ; far fewer than today travelled to away games , and it meant you got to see a game each week - can't remember the cost , but think it was slightly cheaper than seeing the first team . I can remember seeing those at the end of their career , like Johnny Haynes and George Cohen , and up-and-coming youngsters like Malcolm Macdonald , playing against our reserve team . Can you imagine the fuss that the big clubs would kick up nowadays if both first and second team had to play at the same time
