The strange Danny Kedwell situation

I have heard plenty of rumours about Mr Kedwell. From smoking and not being fit enough to wanting to be loaned out or Taylor simply no longer wanting him any longer. I doubt the latter as he is almost certainly a better option than German and always worth at least a sub spot. Then this came out this afternoon of which the following is an excerpt:

“He’s absolutely fine, I just felt last week that he wasn’t as focused as he should have been and everyone needs to do it right to get themselves mentally prepared for the next match.”

“I have a lot of respect for Danny Kedwell, I think he’s a winner and he’s somebody you want to take out on the park with you.”

“I just felt as though he lost a bit of that last week, he knows the way I want things to be done and he knows how he was. We have shaken hands, got on with it and I had a good chat with him Monday.”

“If anything he dropped his standards a bit last week and that isn’t him.”

I know players can lose focus and such but surely not a player who supports the club he plays for?!?! Even if I had a broken leg I would be desperate to do my best as I never want us to lose!!!! When playing he missed a few penalties which was unlike him and I believe he was one of the players who wanted the end of Martin Allen's spell so must surely be happy with the current set up. Perhaps he wanted to play every match and was unhappy with the rest he got after his injury. I hope he doesn't leave but I guess we would then know the truth!

I met him a couple of times pre season at Roko's GYM, and he was raring to go for the season, felt he was his fittest for ages and really keen to do well. The season started and he did do well.

I do not know the truth, but it is worrying when somebody who has a real love for the club is supposedly not interested.

I also do not like the public flaying of a player. I suppose you have to try different ways but telling the fans that a player they love and who loves the club is no longer interested doesnt seem a good way to me.

Me thinks someones agent has said Danny Boy,your 31 and you signed a contract in May for 2 years which means your days of playing football will just about be over when that contract expires , but, ...pst come here , whisper whisper, look I have heard a whisper that Rotherham are looking for someone to rescue them from the drop and lets be serious your going no where with these fools at Gillingham, so piss Taylor off a bit and lets see if we can get you moved before the transfer deadline is over.

Danny Kedwell should remain in the squad at Gillingham Football Club, but "in the squad" are the three letters I want to put a lot of importance on.

I think in The January Transfer Window or in the summer before the start of the 2015 / 2016 that Gillingham need to sign a striker who can play alongside Cody McDonald, score and create goals in League One and has the physical presence that has been lacking in the final third, and eventually Danny Kedwell will be pushed further back down the pecking order to third / fourth choice striker and situations like the one on Saturday where Danny Kedwell doesn't make the subs bench will become a regular occurrence.

I also think we need to take into consideration that Danny Kedwell is 31 and he has had two very bad injuries during 2014, and while no player is past it when they go over thirty, Danny Kedwell has worked has way up through the divisions to play for the team he supports and play in the third tier of English Football - which is a incredible achievement - but Danny Kedwell isn't like Deon Burton or Kevin Davies where he is a older striker who is dropping down to League One to see out the rest of there playing career's, this is the highest level Kedwell has played at.

But will Danny Kedwell accept a squad role at Gillingham, I know Danny Kedwell wants to play every game he is available for selection but I don't see Danny Kedwell starting week in, week out and we're going to constantly read stories like this one on a regular basis all the while Danny Kedwell isn't named in the eighteen man squad.

I heard a little rumour from someone who follows Cambridge that Danny Kedwell is going there as soon as the window opens on a loan deal

That will be interesting although at this stage last season every Northampton fan seemed certain Bayo was going back for a 3rd time. Not only didn't he but he signed for AFC Wimbledon in the summer!

I think something has definitely happened with Kedwell,as he would have played some part by now.Maybe a disagreement somewhere, but what we know is Kedwell wont want to leave the Club he loves.I think if he does not play any part of our Christmas fixtures then he is highly likely to go.I hope he gets a chance to show Taylor that he still has it.He deserves that chance, and we can only benefit from that.

Trying to guess what goes on behind closed doors is fun, but, only those involved know what's going on, unless the team is suffering with Kedwells absence (no evidence of that so far) then I will have faith that PT has it under control.

I went down to Gillingham's Training Ground Yesterday and I asked if Danny Kedwell was ready for Saturday's Match.

Danny Kedwell is fit and available for selection for Saturday's Match Against Chesterfield, it is now down to Peter Taylor to decide if he will select him in the eighteen man squad.

After the report of him not being fit or ready to play I was surprised to read that he is for Saturday. Makes you wonder if a bit of opposition kidology is going on somewhat.

Ebbsfleet United are linked with a potential move for Danny Kedwell.

Another rumour I have heard today is that Peter Taylor wants to build a young team over a number of season's that has the potential and ability to take Gillingham into The Championship, and Danny Kedwell just does not fit into that criteria.

I cannot see Kedwell dropping three Leagues to go out on loan,he is much better than that.Kedwell did ok when he came on yesterday, and he certainly chased the ball down which Norris didn`t look interested in doing.I think he may go out on loan as Taylor probably wants another Striker in,but probably to a League 2 Team.

And he can jump up in the air which Norris is incapable of - his feet didn't leave the ground once yesterday!

AAH the old rebuilding program, whats this edition number 283 ? Still we haven't had one for what 4 months ,Taylor has bought in a whole dam team this year, most of them young and were still on the verger of relegation ?
Good plan though, I wonder how many late nights he sat in his office thinking of this. Tell the team owner a few weeks before your going to be fired you have a new plan, your going to build young,it will take a couple of years so sign this piece of paper which gives me three more years as the Gills manager and I will build you a Championship winning team.
Fast forward to January 1st,2018....You know Scally I can get us out of the Blue Square if we bought in some older players, your plan of going young back in 2014 really didn't work you know.
Scally nurse wipes the drool from his chin, HE SAID HE CAN GET US OUT OF THIS DIVISION she shouts in his ear, handing him a pen,he weakly puts his X on the piece of paper giving Taylor another 15 years as the Gills manager.

I wonder if Gillingham should of offered Adebayo Akinfenwa the two year contract he wanted in the summer ???

I know it is all hypothetical now, but at least Adebayo Akinfenwa could link up with Cody McDonald and while we had question marks about whether Akinfenwa can start two matches in four days, you can tell that Cody McDonald is missing the combination play he had with Akinfenwa because Danny Kedwell and Cody McDonald just don't have the same partnership that Akinfenwa had whenever he played alongside either Kedwell or McDonald.
