The story of the season

Postby Garawa » Mon May 04, 2015 6:27 pm

So it has been a significant turn around to finish 12th and we should carry some momentum into the next season so what are your thoughts as to what has been the main story? Taylor's sacking? Dack moving into midfield? The arrival of Justin Edinburgh or John Marquis?

For me Dack moving to the middle was pivotal but equally was, for the first time, we had 3 very good centre-halves. Egan has been outstanding and so too were Hause and Ehmer who between them scored 7 goals. The switch to 3 at the back worked wonders also. Whilst Egan was most people's choice for the top honour I feel he had 2 other very good centre-halves alongside him whereas Dack is a player that is quickly becoming irreplaceable and something we haven't had for quite some time (if at all). McGlashan has been a revelation in that I don't think many had high hopes for him but he has proved himself to be a very useful addition to the squad. The jury is out on Norris but he has 7 goals from 17 starts and although he has had a number more sub appearances they have been for short periods. Perhaps now he has broke his duck at home he might take that to another level but he is possibly still a better choice 3rd striker than we have had in recent seasons with the likes of German, Payne etc.

I worry good players will leave to make way for lesser ones as managers always poach their favourites, I'm not sure how many are experienced in 3rd tier level in the Newport squad. Nelson would surely make a better number 2 than almost any keeper at this level and would be many teams number one. Could be a lot of changes coming up, not too many I hope as we want to build not start all over again but it could be an interesting summer coming up starting tomorrow!

I felt Taylor was turning it around a bit before he was sacked, but obviously the Telephone call caused Taylor`s dismissal.I think it was the right decision as every fan can see we`re a much better Team since Taylor has moved on.The gang of four let the players off their leash and players like Dack have thrived because of it.Dack is now playing in his best position,Cody scored quite a few goals as he actually had people creating chances for him,Marquis was brought in who clicked with Cody straight away.Justin Edinburgh has continued what the gang of four started and we finished in a position that no one thought was possible, and we all feel quite optimistic about next season.Another top half finish would be great. There has certainly been progress since January, and we have a higher points total than last season.
