Capital One Cup Draw

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Tue Jun 09, 2015 5:04 pm

Gillingham are one of the seeded Teams in next Tuesday`s draw, which means we will avoid the best sides.Who would you like? Barnet at home would be nice,or Dag & Red.

Worst team possible at home, someone that let in 200 goals last season and had no money to buy new players over the summer, someone like Hartlepool or Mansfield will do.

Portsmouth, Barnet or Cambridge United Away - all three are stadiums I haven't been to before.

Dagenham & Redbridge and AFC Wimbledon would be decent tie's should Gillingham be drawn at home.

So much for being regionalised! Plymouth is 255 miles from Gillingham. Its a winnable game on paper, but a long journey.

Paul Scally has sent an email to the Football League complaining about the draw.I agree with him on this.

Not sure how it can be better "regionalised" - perhaps North West/North East/South West/South East but someone will always have to travel and the likes of Plymouth; Hartlepool and Carlisle will always be able to present a case as will clubs who have to visit these far flung outposts.

We should just get on with it and get over it - we all know the rules. There must be a Football League AGM where this type of issue can be raised

While we are at it why don't we consider regionalising the league so Carlisle and Plymouth never have to make the 800 mile round trip to play each other and Exeter and Hartlepool can avoid a 700 mile round trip.

I think clubs should be given the option to either play The First Round of The League Cup on Saturday The First Of August or the first mid-week game after The Football League Season has started.

Plymouth Argyle away is the luck or unluckyness of the draw, but if this match was moved to a Saturday with a 3PM Kick Off then the attendance will be bigger and there is the possibility of more League Cup First Round Tie's being televised.

Last Season Gillingham played MK Dons, Yeovil Town (League Cup), Yeovil Town, Swindon Town, Barnsley, Newcastle United (League Cup), Crewe Alexandra, Stevenage (Football League Trophy) and Coventry City (Friday Night) in the first five week's of the season and Gillingham played on Saturday / Tuesday for four week's in a row, if you could move The League Cup First Round Tie to a Saturday before The Football League Season started, then attendance's will be bigger and you can name a stronger squad as there be more time to rest between matches.

I also think that The Football League Season should be extended by two week's, and move the longest away trips for every team on a Tuesday Night to a Saturday.

I suppose the difficulty with that is getting the playoffs completed as they always culminate over the bank holiday weekend. I'm pretty sure clubs could streamline their pre-season by a week and use a couple of weeks playing "competitive" preseason matches instead.

One thing I find really interesting is that clubs in Europe double up there domestic cup competitions as pre-season friendlies, so not only are players preparing themselves for the up and coming season but your also playing competitive matches where the result has something on the line.

If The League Cup don't want to move matches to before the season starts, then why not move Round's One, Two and The Last Sixteen of The Football League Trophy to July and have The Group Stage Format the competition used to have in the 1980's where two team's from each three team group progressed to The Last Sixteen, by playing these games before the season start's you free up three mid-week's during The Football League Season which can be used for local mid-week league games and you will have three additional Saturday's for longer away trips.

You then playing The Last Sixteen Match and the competition will resume in November for The Area Quarter Finals.

The attendances for The Football League Trophy would be better in the summer, as the early round's get attendance's barely over 1,000, team selection's would be stronger, and you will get the opening round's out of the way very quickly so that when the tournament resume's in November, you are left with eight team's in The Northern Section and eight team's in The Southern Section.

You guys do know they don't walk to these games or ride a bike don't you, jeezzz poor players having to ride a nice charabang for 5 hours each way, boo hoo. ??
When I was a kid I had to walk 3 miles to school uphill , in the snow ,holes in my shoes, and then 4 miles home ,uphill in the same dam snow, with the same dam holes in my shoes. I used to hate my folks and that dam horse for moving that caravan every day.
