Deadline day signings - Welcome back Quigley!

Postby Garawa » Tue Jan 31, 2017 10:22 pm

Gills have made 2 late Deadline day signings with an hour of the window remaining! Joe Quigley returns to the club after having his initial loan spell abruptly cut short through injury and close to returning from injury in the next few weeks.

The second player is winger Harry Cornick. Both join on loan from Bournemouth and are the third from the club to have been loaned to the Gills this season.

No defender what most fans wanted however.

Hmm. So Quigley is still injured; strange to sign him again. Cornick is well thought of I believe so it will be interesting to see him. But as you said Gary; why no defender? What the hell do we do if Ehmer gets injured or sent off? That's a worry for me.

No need for stinking defenders , were going to start playing Albatross in goal, , one defender so he has someone to talk to, and eight up front and Harry Connick Junior singing in midfield, wwoooww hhoo what a team, goals for, goals against is going to look great, like 15 for / 14 against.............................................. each week.
Why with only 15 or so games left why do we sign a guy who might not play in the first half a dozen, that makes no sense at all ??

All I can think is that we have this new guy Parker that can play up front so Quigley may be a case of Bournemouth virtually giving us him so he can play when he is fit otherwise the window would be closed and he can't go anywhere (plus he knows the club having been here at the start of the season). Think of it like a freebie we wasn't in the market for. We have Cody, Donnelly, Jet, Parker and List all technically first team forwards so have options without Quigley.

As for defence I worry a bit because Pennock seems to be suggesting that Osadebe started as a centre-back and can step in. I really don't like him as a defender at all. Jackson is fine as a right back in my opinion, we have Garmston and Konchesky for left back and I guess that leaves Ehmer, Oshilaja, Herd and Osadebe for the 2 in the middle.

A good bit of business as Quigley can hold the ball up well, and will be a threat in the air as we saw at 6ft 4.Hopefully he wont be out for too long.I have been told by an Orient fan that Cornick is a really good winger,so we may have a gem here.No CB brought in is a concern as Oshilaja has good games then not so good games.I think we will be hoping a good CB will be available on trial soon to give us another option.
