Time to concentrate on the league.

Such high hopes in the first 10 minutes, we had all of the possession and seemed on top of things, then it all unravelled.
Yet again we were second to every ball, slow to react, clueless to find the goal.
I am seriously struggling to find a positive from tonight other that the title of this thread.
Leon Legge was deservedly MOTM again, defence seem to be the only ones putting in a shift, midfield, do we have one? and don't get me started on strikers!!
I'm not a happy girlie!

A long way to go but it is very evident from the pre-season games and the two home games that the midfield is in serious trouble. It appears there is no money unless Charlie Lee is loaned out because of his wages. Sorry, that's a cop out as his wages weren't an issue last season! We got Cody on a free and I guess it is HIS wages that's the issue and Lee is being made the fall guy so maybe getting Akinfenwa in was a luxury that was needed more elsewhere.
We have wide players but we don't play with a wide midfield. The rest are quite defensive other than Lee and we don't appear to want him! I thought he was superb on Saturday. Why the strikers cannot score though is a total mystery, all seem to be rushing and panicking with their chances like its a final day relegation dogfight! Maybe we were expected to win these games and not away at Wolves so maybe we will win there but lose without scoring and I'm afraid that we will start to panic as the crowd gets nervy. Daft really.

Too early to panic after just a couple of defeats gary. I thought the game could have gone either way against Colchester. My only concern as such in that game was that in the last 15 minutes there was only 1 team ever going to win it and they did. I thought we were supposed to be the super fit team.
Every supporter I spoke to in the summer talked about our lack of creativity in midfield. I think the guy from Accrington is a good player, but we desperately needed another midfielder.
Why we have no money is a mystery to me when you consider how much money the club made last year. We raked in a fortune. We have avoided big transfer fee's. We have got rid of
jack payne who was a reasonable earner at the club and achieved more income from his sale, so I do not know why we are so skint again.
We are a battling side that is not creating decent chances for the strikers. Most of the opportunities are half chances.
Lets not panic yet, but it is the midfield that needs looking at.

To add to the worries I see that Colchester got hammered 4-1 at home last night. The whole pre-season and start of season period has been very disappointing. Too soon to rush to judgement but also past the point of saying there's no cause for concern.

I'm not sure that it is too soon to worry. We don't want to be struggling this season in the same way as we did last time we were at this level. Once you become involved in the scrap at the bottom it is always hard to get out of it and that nervy feeling goes through every aspect of the club. It is obvious to all of us that we need someone in midfield to unlock defences because without that we are not creating chances. I wouldn't be so concerned if we hadn't scored but had made chances, but I can't even think of many real clear chances, only half chances or speculative shots from distance. Hopefully this will all be put right on Saturday, but I am worried that we will have a repeat of the season when we last were relegated which will be horrible for everyone!

I'd be happy and slightly surprised if we get a point at Wolves. What's worse my partner is a lifelong Wolves fan !!

One of my new business partners is a scout for Wolves. (I know arguably he hasnt done very well lol) He is a scout but only at a low level. If they hear of a player in the amateur leagues he does a couple of assessments before they send down one of their main scouts.
So really hoping we can take advantage of the disaray at wolves and grab ourselves a point or three.
I unfortunately will be decorating my son's house ready for him to move into it later this week.

Looks like you enjoyed yourself more than anyone who went Rob!
Massive gulf in class, even Bristol City showed that with their forward two players we could never afford to sign. Not a surprise this start, a vert tough run that will continue with Brentford, Swindon and Sheffield United and I just hope we aren't so far behind by that point. What is disappointing not scoring as I felt we had enough quality in that. First time since 2007/8 we haven't scored in opening 3 games and have conceded more compared with that season too.

Sorry Gary, there may be a gulf in class but you can still try and compete. There seemed only a few players showing any fight this afternoon. I don't know how MA can think of offloading Lee when the midfield is so lightweight. Gregory is too slow and continually caught in possession or plays his colleagues into trouble. Dack and Whelpdale improved it when they came on but there is also nobody who seems capable of creating anything for the forwards. The first goal was down to the 2 centrebacks failing to pick up Griffiths and giving him too much time. It was downhill from there.

Don't think I have ever bet against Gillingham before ,but that was the easiest few hundred bucks I ever made, what a disappointing result.
Brentford , Swindon, Bristol City, Crawley and Coventry , could be sitting level with the same number of points as Coventry by the time we play them if we don't learn to score.

What is most disappointing to me is that MA said we lost to a very strong Wolves team. No we didn't. We lost to a load of kids. The same kids who got beat by Morecombe in the week.
My friend tells me Wolves were superb in possession and fluid with the ball and we were outclassed, so I accept Wolves played well and we apparently played bad so why dress it up about
a strong wolves team.
We need a midfielder who knows how to link the front men.
