Scunthorpe

Well, I'm sorry but I won't be going to the game on Saturday. It really does not excite me as a game and funnily enough, I have a sneeking suspicion that Scunthorpe, with their new manager, might just nick it. Lets face it, apart from the masive commitment of an all day event for me, I cannot justify the expense. It doesn't mean I won't be cheering the Gills on, its just thta it will be from the comfort of my arm chair and watching Jeff Stelling on Sky Sport! I will be there Tuesday night though as I think Cheltenham will be the better game.

I have my tickets for Sat, but am also more excited by Tuesday, which I believe to be a very important test for us. If we beat the teams around us, even at this early stage, it seems like six points as they are obviously not gaining points from those games. If they beat us however, the whole league tightens up and our position doesn't look so good. At the moment, for example, our win at Port Vale is making all the difference. The cup match is a distraction, and at least I don't have to panic for 90 mins, but the important business starts again on Tuesday. I have several friends coming with me to take advantage of the offer and it is good to see people who have lost their interest recently wanting to come back. A good performance may encourage some of them to become regulars again, which has to be a good thing. A good cup run is fun, but getting out of this horrible league is vital, especially after the start we have made.

Call me a thick pussy (now there's a visual) but I just don't follow the "chelmsford" thread. Where does Posh say Chelmsford?

Anyway...I share the views of others re Sat. Frankly if someone said-lose 5.0 sat and win 1.0 tuesday I 'd take it. The cup doesn't interest me except if we get a bumper 3rd round tie packing Priestfield to the gunnalls? and all that goes with it.
I believe we will edge it with Scunthorpe because they look poor this season and if we were already in div 1 ((where our current squad deserves to be) We would be looking at this as a good home win.. So 1.0.
Much more important is Tuesday and NOT to get any injuries on Sat.

I am not going on saturday. My son is moving out to a new flat this week, and I have too much to do over the weekend to take time out for the cup game.

However TUESDAY.....

I have done my bit for Tuesday. I have brought 6 adult tickets and 2 childrens tickets. Out of those 4 adults havent been to see the gills in over 10 years. I have urged them to try it again and forget their old dislikes of scally for a bit and see what football we now play....

So PLEASE lets have a good show under the floodlights on tuesday, with the ticket deals it should be another good gate. Keep doing these deals till february then people will come anyway regardless of the prices as they will want to see us steamroller the division.

It's a shame the Cup has no magic anymore. I love a cup run, a bit of possible glory, knockout football and a chance to play sides from different levels. As for the matchday prices, they are great, but for me it is the whole experience and that is not cheap and public transport links at night are rubbish!

I agree Elg, I love the FA Cup, but previously it's been a welcome diversion from mediocre league form. I might be a bit concerned this season should we get to round three and draw a big team, because last year we were going well around Christmas, then we lost to Stoke and the good league form disappeared. The form we are in this year could help us make some money from a cup run. Oh to be back in the championship and only enter the FA Cup in the third round.

I do like the chance to see a weird team like the MET Police though (Crawley had better be on their best behaviour for once this weekend). Of course there is always the chance of Burscough!

I'm looking forward to this weekend. I don't think the defeat by Middlesborough did us any harm in the League Cup and the chance to add some money to the coffers with a cup run could come in very handy next season if we have spent our windfall getting out of League 2 this season. Of course it can lead to an away trip to Old Trafford worth more than possibly 2 successive promotions!
