AND HE WILL GET IT, no longer will supporters criticize a wonderful performance like last weeks Cup game ,no SirreeBob, and to make sure he gets nothing but positive support Scally starting next week will be giving everyone free admission to home games, all the cost of season tickets will be refunded, tea, and food at the ground will be FREE, and 50% discount on away game travel and ground admission.
NOW on the other hand a point or three tomorrow, a big win in the Cup Replay, and 3 points from Oldham, I think that will end the complaining about the wonderful performances the Mighty Gills have shown the fans so far this year.
There's no crying in football Taylor, leave it to Scally to beg the fans to be nice , YOU get on with the job of turning this bunch of wannabees into a football team.

I used to play sunday league and would have moaned like billy o if we hadnt beaten a team in the cup 3 divisions below us. So a professional team should have no problem at home against a team well below us. Its not like they scraped a draw or sneaked it they were ROBBED and deserved to win according to every report including peter taylors.

Elg this is not a gillingham fc problem it is a football problem. Look at the empty seats in most of the grounds now. Birmingham, charlton, even most of the premiership games have empty seats if you look closely. Man utd fans moaning about Moyes, geordies moaning about Pardew all football fans tend to moan nowadays. Does that make them bad.

You cannot compare them to the fans of the 1970's, when football was dirt cheap to get into, so was beer and cigarettes and no it was not proportional, it was just a lot cheaper. People are now paying Premium rates for something and therefore feel they deserve something back.

I guess they should no longer be called supporters then, but viewers. Empty seats, no problem, but there is an attitude of moan rather than encourage that has crept in since about 2003 that just riles me.

I think Peter Taylor has a right to moan. The performance was the worst I have seen as a Gills fan, but the abuse that was levied his way was terrible. People were reaching out to him leaning over the advertising boards and were furious. Malcolm had to intervene only to also cop a load of abuse. People even came up to me demanding I "write how bad it was" when a quick look would see the microphone an know I wasn't a journalist!

If we had lost heavily at home or just been relegated I could understand it but if you act like after every such game, as a Gills fan, you are going to end up with sever anger issues or in jail!! Patience seems to get less and less these days.

It isn't just the one game though. I on my infrequent visits have heard people moaning within the first 5 minutes, a complete lack of interest when the teams come out and a seeming lack of desire to get behind the team. I understand your comment about cost rob, but in 75 / 76 I was earning about 20 per week and the adult entrance was £1.00. In percentage terms that was 2% of my wage. The average wage now days is supposedly £450 and it costs £20 which is 4% so double in real terms.
Based on that double the cost = half the support. Why turn up if all you want to do is moan for 80 minutes, cheer a goal for 10 seconds and moan about fans that make noise?

Funny thing is you don't hear Arsenal fans, Southampton fans, Liverpool fans moaning this year, come to think of it don't see any moaning from Orient or Wolves fans, I wonder why ?
I know it was unrealistic to think GFC were going to be at the top of the pile this year, just don't think we expected to see them in the relegation zone, but worse of all we seem to be a team that does not give a dam. OH dear another bad game oh well that happens , Scally where's my pay check, got to go .
Fans moan after 5 minutes, yup but at least they come back week after week and pay their cash at the window , and most have for years, so I suppose a bit of moaning don't hurt that much, sticks and stones etc.
Not a lot of moaning last year was there ? Yeah a bit about the lack of goals, bit about playing different players every week, bit about WERE GOING UP AS CHAMPIONS, and I wanted to go to Wembley to see us win promotion (oh sorry that was me), the fans were pretty dam happy ,not much moaning was there ?
Ok going to be 60 today, rain at 1 this afternoon so I am going to have to leave you lady's and gentlemen to look after the mighty Gills today, got a golf score card with my name on it, probably the last time in Chicago this year, so go Gills, big win or at least, come away with something.

Use statistics all people want. I do not remember anyone not being able to afford to go to football in the 70's.

Where as now a lot of people cannot afford to go.

I have never boooed the team, I do not moan inside the ground, I moan to fans on the forums pages as it is a place of discussion.

This will be my last season as a season ticket holder. From now on I will choose what games I go to (mostly because of work I cannot do weekday matches)

Seems ironic that if you get fed up with your football team, or you get bored watching dross, you are lain open to criticism. However men walk out on there wives
or partners and that is seen as acceptable in todays standards. You can leave your wife lol but not your football club. Not that I am thinking of leaving gillingham just
pointing out an observation.

I think Shankly was WRONG football is not more important than anything else far from it. Football is escapism from the stresses of life.

Anyway, back to the thread. Cadbury, Rob has to be right in terms of cost of living. Food inflation has been massive so to has fuel costs both in terms of petrol and gas and electricity. Add that to everything else and there is little left even with both parents working when possibly that never happened in the 70s. So even with an extra wage people still have to choose carefully what they spend their spare cash on and perhaps football, even if slightly more affordable, is getting shoved down the pecking order.
