Elliott Hewitt is a weird one. I heard the loan was to the end of the month and he is still getting back to match fitness hence why wasn't named in the Wolves squad! Is he likely to be fit to be able to feature for us at all?!?!?!

I guess Hewitt is quite close to playing.I`m pleased we have extended Harriman`s loan deal until the end of the season,as he has been a decent player for us so far. With Fish out injured he has been great cover.Hopefully Taylor wont put Harriman in Midfield now Hewitt is back,as Harriman does a beter job at RB in my opinion.Hewitt in midfield would be a better option.

Sorry to add a dose of realism but I can't see players from Woking and Maidenhead changing the face of Gillingham football.

Maidenhead Rimshot????
Marriott was at Woking but he is an Ipswich player like Hewitt. He has a decent strike rate that prolific strikers don't really lose, my only concern would be that he only played 10 senior matches last season and this but then I suppose this is also his first chance to prove what he can do at league level to get a shot at a place at his club. I wouldn't be too concerned where has been most recently as many players have cut their teeth in the Conference on their way up the leagues. Given his age he is probably on the first rung of that ladder.

We have signed Watford youngster Connor Smith on loan for the rest of the season.According to the Watford fans he is really highly rated, and can play defensive Midfield or an attacking role.

Dear Mr. Scally , pssst ,psssst, come here, close ,closer, it's the 2013/14 season, were not top of the 2nd division any more, that was last year, now were fighting to avoid relegation, and although I agree it's nice to give young guns a run out, but I can't help thinking a couple of older experienced players might have been a better
" buy." Just my thinking.
I always thought the club that bought a player in on loan had to pay the full salary of said player, but this appears not to be true. Does anyone know the details of the salary for an on loan player ?

We are never made fully aware unless it is disclosed to a media source. Deals can be very different. The old way used to be half salary each each for the entire loan spell but some bigger more affluent clubs use it more as a development tool and so fund the loan spell their end. Some continue to pay the full wages on the provision the receiving club plays the player in each game of the loan, some (I believe the lad from Newcastle fell under this category) pay the wages only if the player doesn't play. As soon as they play in a game we pay his wages for that period so those types of loans can be a bit ineffective if the club has wage constraints and the parent club gets back a player who gained nothing from his time away.
I think I would prefer a respected youngster with pace to an old hat going through the motions. Of course many players never make it and therefore might not live up to the hype but too many players have come here with plenty of experience but totally fail to put any of it into practice.

I'm not talking about the clubs they are signed to but the clubs they have been playing for and therefore the level of experience they possess. Info is direct from press reports.

Gary Borrowdale has signed til the end of the season. Rumoured also to be signing Joe Pigott, a young striker from Charlton, and a signing to be announced at 5 o'clock and that may be Pigott

Marriott was almost certainly a pay as you play deal, shame as he looked decent against Brentford. Surely if our only intention is to use them as a last resort would we be better off trying a youth player instead?
In the press releases Peter Taylor speaks highly of Borrowdale but it sounds like he has been out of the game for a while and "won't be ready for a few weeks whilst he gets fit". The Charlton lad sounds quite useful but I can't see us getting a lot of use out of Borrowdale unless Joe Martin gets injured.

I am surprised we have signed Gary Borrowdale,as he not been in the League for a few years, and looking on the internet it does not have any appearances from playing at Tonbridge, and Margate.Taylor must have faith in him and feel he can get him fit and capable of challenging Barrett,Legge, and Martin.I will reserve judgement until I have seen Gary play, but its one that fans will currently question.Piggot sounds highly rated and will replace Marriott.Hopefully if we do bring in another platyer, then hopefully he is a winger.

I would imagine that his deal is not that expensive and if it works good shout, if not, very little lost. Maybe the fans should let the manager manage and if they don't like his choices then let him know on non - match days. Fans support, managers manage; if clubs would only let that happen!

That's a bit rich Elg, you're always saying the fans don't make themselves heard enough. If a forum isn't for opinions what value does it have ?
