I am here as part of my research into a new project, looking at ways to help supporters reduce the cost off attending modern day football.

Interesting idea and survey. As a club that has always had a significantly higher proportion of following supporters in relation to average home attendance, I suspect a lot is down to the same people travelling together in the same way. Such travels by coach or train for example can significantly bring down costs overall but this means going almost all games instead of one or two.
