Rotherham (H)

After a 11 day break,we`re back at Priestfield against a very good Rotherham side. They`re currently 15 games unbeaten, and sit in the Playoffs just five points off 2nd place. As much as it pains me to say it Steve Evans is doing a great job up there, and we will be in for a very tough game.I`m hoping that we will be fresh and bang up for the game, and don't put in a performance like Sheffield Utd.The win at MK Dons was very good, and takes some pressure off the game, meaning a point would be a good result and its not a must win.

What Team would you play against Rotherham?

Great thing is the teams below us with the exception of The Craws have now played as many if not more games than us and only picked up a point here and there, nice not to play and no one gains on us much. GO GILLS rise to the occasion over the next 3 games.

I thought the same. We had played up to 3 games more over some sides and were just a couple of points ahead but they haven't capitalised on that. Now we have a game in hand and are touching distance off 12th place which would have to be considered a great season. Crawley have lost 4 in a row now I believe so just as I thought, their hectic schedule with a small squad is starting to hit hard.

I would like to finish above Port Vale and Bradford, everyone was all gooey over how they played at the start of the season. Rotherham are due a defeat but are scoring willy nilly and just aren't conceding at present. Will be tough but we are unbeaten at home against them for something like 12 games or so so perhaps they are due a win here! 0-0 it is then!

Don't forget to check out the stats and facts on Friday and during the game in the In-game stats forum.

One positive is Rotherham have struggled for years at Priestfield.Their last win down here was in 1988,so hopefully that run will continue. The atmosphere should be better than usual as there is the Steve Evans factor. My main worry is how will we react after the 11 days rest? The last time we had a similar rest was Sheffield Utd at home, and we never turned up.We know if we win we will be on 51 points and just about there.

Sitting here this afternoon with the biggest games of the season about to be played, I would happily take a point from Rotherham, Orient, and Pet'bough over the next couple of weeks, taking 3 from Wimbledon last time out certainly helped, I thought if we could get 5 or 6 points out of these four games I would have been happy and were halfway there after only one. No Kedwell again ,looks as if he won't be back for 2 more weeks.

I said before the game that I would be pleased with a point, but errors and a poor linesman have cost us.We started off in the worst way possible in conceding just after 12 seconds.I was worried how we would start as we played poorly against Sheffield Utd after a long break.Rotherham particularly the first 25 minutes were head and shoulders above us,we couldn`t get near them and they should have had a couple more goals before we equalised.A few minutes before we scored we started to settle. We won a free kick and Dack put the ball in for Bayo to head home quite easily. We went into H/T at 1-1,and I think every Gills fan was pleased we were still in the game.We started the second half the better side, and went 2-1 up on 56 minutes when a long ball from Hewitt found the impressive Weston who finished past their keeper. It was like the old Weston of early last season, and a similar goal to what he scored at Dagenham last season.Rotherham were still a threat and they equalised 10 minutes later when Hitchcock the sub scored and for me their equaliser was offside. Our players were ranting at the linesman and ref,but the ref wasn`t having any of it.

To our credit we kept going and Dack put us ahead with just seven minutes left with a great chip over their keeper.I felt at that stage we would atleast get something from the game, but our defending has cost us late in games so many times this season. Two minutes after we went 3-2 up Barrett made a bad error where the ball went through his foot as he was going to pass the ball back to Nelson, and Hitchock then ran onto the ball to equalise for Rotherham. You just knew there would only be one winner, and Barrett again conceded a free kick. The free kick went out for a corner, and Hitchcock then scored the winner in the 90th minute. It was gutting as from the 25th minute we played well and deserved something, but Rotherham were very good and you can see why Rotherham are unbeaten in 16 games. Results have not gone for us today,so we still have a bit to do.We need to defend better and stop making as many mistakes.
