There wont be much rest for the players,as we travel to Walsall on Easter Monday. The players should be in confident mood after Friday`s 2-0 win over Tranmere.Anything from this game and we should be able to say Gillingham will be playing in League one next season.Walsall are a good side, but they cannot get in the Playoffs, and obviously cant go down. They`re set for a comfortable top half finish,so hopefully they will be on their holidays and we can nick a result.

What Team and formation would you play at Walsall? Can Gills nick a result at Walsall?

They've struggled at home of late, something like 1 win in 9. This could go either way but I think it will be a point and with Crewe playing Colchester and Oldham facing Coventry, there are 8 sides that will be below us after the game at worst. If all the results go against us we will be 4 clear with 2 games left and teams below us facing some very tricky ties. I think we can relax and if we do I think we will win as it would take a collapse twice the proportions of the time we lost our place in the league.

Match facts to appear here tomorrow: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=984

That's it then First Division football next year. Seemed a good lively game, Gills score at the end, but a goals a goal so who cares. Seems by the stats I am reading it was a pretty even game ? Is Cody signed for next year ?

I don't think the game set the league alight to be honest but both sides really went through the motions and a point was fantastic. I doubt it would be needed a great deal and to be absolutely safe we still need one more point but that is a decent result in the circumstances.

Cody's contract isn't up for renewal so he will be there next season.

The first half did sound like it was the last game of the season, with both Teams minds elsewhere.Walsall started the half a couple of gears higher it seemed, and they took the lead quite early in the second half. They put quite a bit of pressure on us and it seemed quite inevitable that Walsall would grab the killer goal, luckily they didn`t.Taylor brought on Bayo and they said he linked up with Cody well. That was proved correct when on 84 minutes Bayo put Cody through who scored the equaliser. That was his 16th goal of the season,a great record in a struggling side.Bayo and Cody work really well together,so hopefully we will sign Bayo up next season aswell.Lee had a chance to win it late on,but he was denied.

Even though its not mathematical yet,I think we will be safe come Saturday evening whatever our result.

Mathematically it is safe.

It is not possible for all the teams below us to achieve enough points to overtake us as they have to play each other. The fact that some have to play each other means that it is impossible for them to all overhaul us.

We are safe whether we lost 8 0 for the next 2 games or not

I think lol

A good Easter… well done to the players and the manager for securing league 1 status. How i would love to believe that purse strings will be opened to give us a run at promotion next season.

That's not strictly true and I believe Carlisle is the problem Rob. Listening to the "experts" pondering every equation, the fact they have played 43 games means they can reach 53 points. The only 2 clashes between the bottom sides are Oldham v Carlisle and Oldham v Notts County. If Oldham lose both those games but win their other match, they would reach 54 and Notts County could join the Gills on 52 and would escape on goal difference.

Of course all these require EVERY side to win all their remaining games including Carlisle at Wolves and Tranmere at Leyton Orient. It is highly unlikely, almost impossible (remember Wycombe in 2010 anyone) so we are safe but not mathematically safe. Just to muddy the waters further, with a better goal difference of around 10, losing 2 games by 3 goals and if the other sides won by 2, that could put us down on goal difference so we would still need 2 points if what I have written below happened!!!

GILLINGHAM: Preston (Lose), Shrewsbury (Lose)
OLDHAM: Carlisle (Lose), Sheffield Utd (Win), Notts County (Lose)
COVENTRY: Wolves (Win), Sheffield Utd (Win)
COLCHESTER: Brentford (Win), Walsall (Win)
TRANMERE: Leyton Orient (Win), Bradford (Win)
CREWE: Cristol City (Win), Preston (Win)
NOTTS COUNTY: Swindon (Win), Oldham (Win)
CARLISLE: Oldham (Win), Crawley (Win), Wolves (Win)
SHREWSBURY: Peterboro (Win), Gillingham (Win)

If every result goes against us, the table would end up like this (give or take a place for goal difference but the Gills one WOULD be worse):
Coventry - 56
Oldham - 54
Colchester - 53
Tranmere - 53
Crewe - 53
Carlisle - 53
----------------------
Notts County - 52
Gillingham - 52
Shrewsbury - 47
Stevenage - 45

Does anyone know a bookie. I would dearly love to know the odds of these coming true!!!!
