I think the front line is worrying.

Wellbeck does not do enough for me. Sturridge is good but only good. Lambert is good at what he does, Rooney does not seem to be scoring regularly.

I wouldnt take lampard personally.

Wouldn't take Lampard; getting slow now. I would rather take Huddlestone. As for a forward line; the biggest problem we have is that most of the best strikers in England are foreigners.

You need 3 World class players to win the World Cup or even just be considered a threat. There is not one current England player that would make a world 11. When we won in 66' we had Banks, Moore and Charlton who were the 3 best players in their position in the world at that time. At Italia 90' we had Lineaker, Gascoigne and Shilton. We were the best team in that tournament and arguably the best England team in my lifetime. We just didn't have the rub of the green. With a touch of luck, we would have won that tournament. We will struggle to qualify from the group stages this year and then lose in the quarter finals, because historically that is our level.

Well the one good thing is there will not be many on the English squad playing Champions footie after this week, so by time the 14th of June arrives they should all be well rested.
I agree, think it will be a tough group to get out of, I guess you can pencil Italy in for the top spot, we should beat Costa Rico , then there is Uruguay, and who the hell knows what happens in that match ?
I think the thing that worries me is we could go out on goal difference, everyone loses to Italy, we draw with Uruguay, both us and Uruguay beat Costa Rico, problem arises we win 1-0 , Uruguay win 2-0, Suarez scoring both ,everyone back on the bus, time to go home .
Only about 90 something days to go, starting to get close.

OUCH!

I think we should all say we have no chance of getting out of the group, put it in all the papers. Maybe the pressure to achieve and the shock that everyone considers them to be rubbish would be the tonic they need to cause an upset.

I'm not sure Rob's was all that optimistic. If it was I am no longer looking forward to the competition! ;-)

Think they should be looking at Danny Ings, from Burnley, he will be playing in the Prem. next season, and that guy can put the ball in the net a ton

I seriosuly cannot see us getting out of the group.

Maybe if Liverpool win the premiership and Gerrard takes the enthusiasm into the world cup, Maybe if we get a keeper that doesnt make a huge mistake in a big game, maybe if we dont get Mugged by allowing
other teams players to cheat and dive and whine then we might get through the group, but I doubt it and seriously my money is on us not getting through.

I hope I am throwing my money away and england qualify, will be chuffed, I can replace a few bob, but you cannot replace the joy when your team starts performing in a competition.

What we must not do is play our small army of also rans and mediocrities; the likes of Milner, Cleverly, Smalling and Young. Let's risk the unproven but undeniable talents of youth, the Southampton trio must play ( not that lumbering great C/F). From the old guard I would retain only Gerrard and perhaps Rooney. We have no chance of winning it in 2014 so we might as well make an investment for 2018.
Oh wait a minute, Hodgson is the manager so I 'm wasting my time.
