Pennock, Lovel and Day!

Postby lidbid46 » Wed Jan 04, 2017 10:31 pm

Sounds like a team of solicitors and wasn't what I was expecting when JED was sacked but .... It could be quite exciting! I hope it excites the RE so that they start singing again, I hope it excites more people to attend the games so that our crowd figures are more healthy. I hope it excites Gillsfan so that he leaves my wife alone! I hope it makes more people want to to post on here to make this a lively forum for 2017. I hope it excites the players; yes, even JET and Nouble so that they shake themselves out of the recent lethargy and start to enjoy playing again. I hope it excites the stewards so that they are able to smile again. And I hope it excites the Championship when we take our place amongst them next season! Come on you Blue Boys!!!!

So seriously, what does everyone think? The other forums and FB pages are full of doom and gloom but we haven't really discussed it properly at all here! Is everyone so shocked that they are unable to type?!

I think this is a move that had to be made, once again not having a " general manager " that works hand in hand with the gaffer is a mistake, someone sitting in an office next to Glasgow who could sit and watch film with him and then say JUSTIN what the" F " are you doing playing Hessy on the left when the guy looks like a one legged man in a butt kicking contest, but for some unknown reason we don't seem to want " that person " on the pay roll . I guess Scallys attitude is always , I hired the manager now we will let him sink or swim onhis own ??
Suggestion Mr.Scally ,if this hiring does not work out ,PLEASE let someone else choose the next Gills manager ,16 gaffers in the 20 years you have owned the Gills, proves you pick with your heart and wallet not your head .
I think this was a "planned move ", I am sure " Love Pennock Day," ( a new holiday to be celebrated with cards and blue balloons" ) had been told weeks ago that the job was theirs as soon as Glasgow screwed up AGAIN , and the Christmas 's games followed by this two week lay off was the time for Scally to pull the trigger on him.
Well good luck to " Love Pennock Day " lets be serious ,it can't get any worse can it ???

I can't think of much to say that would fall under the 'excited' banner. It's not exciting because we have a famous name, or because Scally has spent big, or because they have a great track record in league management or because they are personalities that will dominate the dressing room. It may be that they are master tacticians, astute selectors, great coaches and outstanding leaders of men !!
When there's any evidence of that I promise to be excited. At the moment it just looks like more of the same to me.

I've said before I don't think the playing staff is a problem. We maybe could do with an out and out scorer and another defender but other than that we have a very good squad at this level. The fact we leak goals and have been playing poorly looks to me more a case of players not knowing what they are required to do rather than not able to. That is down to the manager. If that is the case, what was needed was a guy with a league 1 experience that can get the best out of Jet etc. But we had that with Taylor and that didn't work.

I'm not sure about Pennock. I hear he has great experience at non-league and at Premier League level as Stoke youth coach but what about League 1. What does he know about mercurial talents like Jet, Nouble, Dack etc? I don't think we could afford anyone else and the fact they are here until the end of the season gives us a chance to see how they fare and get behind them. It's not very exciting appointment but maybe that's what we need!

I can't say I'm excited, but a change of manager brings a bit of optimism to this old pessimist. As for experience, I don't think Andy Nelson, Keith Peacock or Tony Pulis had that much, and I enjoyed watching their Gills teams. The long and short of it is, there are no guarantees that a change of manager will bring success. Although a couple of good signings this month, and who knows?

Pennock was not my choice, but as I do with all managers I will back him, Day & Lovell. The deal is only until the Summer so they will surely be doing their utmost to earn a longer deal.Hopefully the players will all work hard to still make it a positive season.

Like it or not he is the new manager and we have no more influence over the decision than we have
over who manages the local Barclay's Bank or Tesco supermarket.

Let's get over it and get back to the reality of the situation.

Happy New Year to you all.

OK I will be honest with you, I did not read more than the first four hundred and fifty pages of you post, got to the bit where you something or other thought something or other, and I started to drink , and to drink, and to drink, the last fifty four hundred pages were just a blur.
It has taken me like two and a half hours to write this replacing M's with N"s and F's with D's , God I hate booze, but at the end of the day I think Scally bottled it , I bet there was 20 appli -cuntsts for the job as Manager of GFC, but the spineless dwarf called Scally at the end of the day decided he was a wimp and was to much of a ladys blouse to make a decision, so we got 26 people to run the team in the hope we stay in the 3rd Division, well done Mr. Scally, and good luck, Lovell ,Penock , Day , Smith, Brown, James, johnson, Ketty or Kelly and God someone open another bottle.
