Sheffield Utd (A)

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Wed Nov 13, 2013 12:19 am

A tough Trip to Bramall Lane on Saturday against a rejuvenated Sheffield Utd side under Nigel Clough.I read on the head to head stats that we`re unbeaten in our last five trips to Bramall Lane! But I cant see us getting anything up there this time.If we play like we did against Brackley, then we will get slaughtered.

Team? Harriman is away on International duty, and Lee is suspended,Hewitt should go straight to RB .I expect New Signing Fagan will be on the bench, but here is the Team I would play.

Nelson
Hewitt,Davies,Barrett,Martin
Gregory
Whelpdale,Mousinho,Hollands,Dack
Kedwell

Subs:Howard,Legge,Weston,German,Fagan,Akinfenwa,McDonald
Noircat Premier League Champion 2007,and 2014.Noircat FA Cup (Runner Up 2014).Promoted to the Premier League (Runner Up 2017,and 2020 in the Championship).

Martin Allen utilised Stephen Butcher but Peter Taylor doesn't seem to want to risk such players. I thought he did well for the 86 minutes he played when thrown in at the deep end. I noticed Joe Carter has suddenly come from nowhere to sit on the bench at the weekend. To my knowledge he spent most of his time here injured and hasn't featured hardly in any development games so his inclusion was a big surprise. I can't see it but I wonder if Taylor feels that is an option??

If ,and I hope and pray we are not, were down by a goal or two after 60/70 minutes I hope Taylor brings Fagan and Cody on to see what they can do together, think if we come away with a point we should feel pretty good about it. Think I smell a 2-2 draw.

So 2-1 to the Mighty Gills even with 3 new players and 2 early substitutions. Kedwell scores again and Cody gets on the score sheet. Great result although I am sure there are some that will still find some negatives!
Onwards and upwards under Taylor.

Hopefully some stability at last, a little more depth and build on our 14th position from a less than brilliant start. Can't ask much more than that!

What a fantastic result! I thought we would do well to get anything up there. They`re in the bottom 4,but they still have good players and a passionate fan base behind them. From Gillsplayer we seemed to start the better side, and took an early lead when Kedwell chased down a defensive mistake, unfortunatly he got injured and is highly likely to miss the Brackley game on Monday. With Gregory going off just before Kedwell it was a blow to have to make two early subs. The goal did seem to wake Sheffield Utd up as they got on top and an equaliser did sound like it had been coming.Just before half-time we did seem to get back in the game.Early in the second half Cody put us 1-2 up with a brave header. It was good that we continued the second half how we finished the first. The Commentary kept praising the defence, and Ian Dowie on Soccer Saturday singled out Legge as outstanding, and the Sheffield Utd fans were raving about Barrett. It was good that the defence had that solid feel that has been missing since last season finished.

The three signings Fagan,Mousinho, and Hewitt seem to have given us that extra bit of quality that was needed. It was a relief when the whistle blew and we could celebrate a fantastic win.Well done to the Players, and Taylor for this great win. It`s early days of course, but that win could give us some confidence. That win at Sheffield Utd must be our best away win in terms of beating a big Club on their patch since our Championship days.Brackley up next, changes will indeed happen, but we need to take that performance into that game.

Great fan turnout who generated lot of noise. A game where Sheffield had by far the majority of possession but didn't make it count against some very resolute defending; Nelson always looking in command of his box and I'm note he really that many saves/catches to male. Similarly at the other tend we probably only had three chances and took two of them.

All in all a good away day and a great reward for all those that made the journey
