Bristol City (A)

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Thu Feb 27, 2014 12:59 am

We Travel to Bristol City on Saturday, hoping to bounce back from two straight defeats. In recent times to lose two in a row is not like us with the sequence of results before that WLWLWLWL.I have read that we played well last week at Oldham, and a draw was the least we deserved with Weston missing a one on one,and Bayo, and Cody both having shots well saved by their keeper.Bristol City come into this game off of a 3-0 away defeat at Sheffield Utd.Sheffield Utd look to be finally clicking.Bristol City`s last home game ended in a 2-2 draw with Tranmere,so we know they concede goals. They currently sit in the bottom 4,but like Sheffield Utd you expect them to get out of it.I think we need to be looking at getting something out of this game after two straight defeats, another defeat would make the gap smaller and we would be looking over our shoulders again.

I will be making my first Trip to Ashton Gate on Saturday,I will be going by Coach. This will be another Ground to tick off for me,and my second away game out of the South East.

What Team would you play? I imagine Cody will start the Game with Bayo,Hopefully Harriman will be ok to play, and Dack should be recalled into the Squad.

I would like Piggott to partner Cody as City (like us) concede goals and I think they can make the most of that fact. No more resting, players need to play regularly to make the most of each players attributes.

No one saw the game , BC v GFC not worth anyone writing about, seems a shame ? Read Taylors comments, he says we have to do better, lol, well know I know why he is the manager, genius, pure genius.
At least he is happy that Puckett has signed for another month, quote every time he (Puckett ) has the ball you feel we can score, so he brings him into the game on the 86th minute mark. Puckett was heard saying in the tunnel after the match ,"Hey Boss, the difficult I can do immediately, but the impossible takes a little longer as in I have to touch the dam ball."
Please Gods of football, don't make May 3rd the day of reckoning.

I never got back in until 11:00pm last night and have only just come online today, but here are my views on the game.....

I thought we deserved something from the game for our second half performance, but a poor first half has cost us.We didn`t really threaten them and Cody was feeding off scraps.City looked the better side in the first half they had a lot of joy down our left hand side. The goal did feel like it was coming, and Baldock scored a great strike past Nelson.Linganzi was a bit too weak in the middle and they were getting through us too easy.At Half-Time Taylor brought on Lee and we played a lot better. It was pleasing to see Lee getting stuck in,and a bit like his old self. Our first decent chance of the game came early on in the second half when Cody ran through but his shot was too near the post and Fielding made the save.City had a header from a corner which landed on top of the net luckily.Weston came on and from his corner Bayo flicked the ball back into the area which Lee finished to send the 512 of us mental,I ran to the front and managed to cut my knee on one of the seats. We were playing well, but a fantastic strike from Gillett out of nothing sank us.To our credit we carried on and threw people forward but could not find the equaliser.I felt we deserved something, but we cant keep saying that.We miss a winger in the Barcham mold badly that will really trouble defenders.Three defeats in a row now and we need to get a win against Crawley on Saturday as only three points seperates us and the bottom four.

OK lets cut to the chase here, first of all you would have been home a lot dam earlier if you had not stopped at every pub on the A4 on the way home, I suggest the M4 might be a better option next time ,lol ? Thanks for the report, nice to see someone has interest in this board.
How does a team like Bristol Titty ever attract 11,000 home fans, something to do with their great success in the past, that Welsh Cup win in 1934 still fresh in the fans minds ?
We got what we deserved ,nothing, that's the trouble with footie, it's a bitch, the final score shows the world exactly what you got and what you deserved to get, bit like a golf score card.
Two weeks ago I thought we were out of the mire, now we have , MKD, Rotherham, Ptrborgh, Orient coming up in the headlights, not a pretty sight me thinks.
Once again thanks for the report, just do me a favor , make the next one a GFC win please, lol.

Firstly, they are a very good side. Their strike partnership has scored 18 and 17 goals this season which is incredible. They score goals and there are a number of sides that have conceded more so quite how they are in the position they are is a total mystery. I guess their inability to hold on to a lead is the route cause, they again lost the lead but managed to gain another. I don't think losing to a side like them is a travesty and a couple of wins can see them roar up the table like Sheffield Utd have.

That said, 3 defeats in a row starts to create doubt and we can ill afford that. We play Coventry in a week or so who also lost 3 in a row until today's poor 0-0 at home to Shrewsbury. These are games that have to be won, so to the Crawley game at the weekend who will be starting to tire after Sat, Tue, Sat, Tue games. The mystery and key must surely be Pigott. We talk how good he is, we extend his loan but we barely play him! Why? If it is pay as you play, do we still pay his wages if he only plays 3 minutes? If so, why didn't he come on when City were on the ropes and we were looking good for a win or at the very least after they scored? Why didn't he just start in the first place to get a much needed win? Seems very odd to expect a player to earn anything in 3 minutes or so!

gwade, I understand your hoping to get an OBE from Scally come his birthday honor roll this year, but you have no need to be such a Gillingham F.C. apologist . With all due respect Bristol City are not a good side, there a piss poor side with 7 wins out of 34 games, and they sit on the edge of the relegation zone. If Bristol City are a good side then I guess Wolves and Orient are on par with Barcelona and Juventus .
Once again for what ever reason Gillingham did not come ready to play, and that is the managers fault , no one elses, the players were obviously not motivated, one halfway decent shot by Dack for the entire first half which was easily saved by their keeper and that's a team coming ready to play ?

I agree with you. BUT City are a good side, they have 4 or 5 players that could play regularly in the Championship. Quite why they have under-performed is a mystery. If Sheffield Utd carry on like they are they will get automatic promotion. Will everyone then be saying what a good side they have after spending two thirds of the season in the bottom four? If City go on a similar run and make the play-offs will they be a good side?

Of course if they go down at the end of the season we can say how poor they are but until then we have to accept that they have players only about 3 or 4 teams in this division could afford to have in theirs. Players of the quality of Emmanuel-Thomas, Baldock and co can do serious damage to any side. They have scored 18 goals each, 6 more than Cody, Bayo and Kedwell combined. I'm sorry, you cannot classify that as poor. We were beaten by two very good strikes, individual goals NOT team a team effort and that's what quality can do!

They were there for the beating and we totally failed to capitalise on it after equalising, that was our fault. It is easy to look at league tables and say this team is good or that team is bad and they are NOT a bad team. I guess their downfall (backed up by the stats) is that they dropped too many points when leading as they have a lot more draws than we do and picked up the fewest points after scoring first. A few wins (2 players hitting 25 in a season looks very likely and unheard of in a side that is not promoted) and everyone will be saying what a great side they are. Sheffield Utd have already charged ahead, City probably will too and we have to win our next couple of games otherwise we will be the side that bears the brunt of their success.
