The 'magic' of the FA Cup

Postby Goalmouth » Mon Oct 13, 2014 3:06 pm

Noting that Maidstone Utd have a home draw to Welling in the final qualifying round of the FA Cup, I'm just wondering, with the way our season seems to be panning out, what the odds are of fate, dishing out a potentially embarrassing visit to Maidstone for us in the first round proper. :(

I listened to Radio Kent on the way home and all they said was how great it would be if they made it through and got a home tie in the first round as all the "world's media" would come out in their millions to see a big tie on a 3G pitch! They seemed to completely forget about the significance of their opponents should they draw the Gills!!!

We've already had the "it can't possibly happen tie" with our Dover B team losing at home, can it happen again? If so, I don't fancy our chances at all!

Jacob will be ecstatic though! Just think the mighty Gills at Gallaghers home ground (oops sorry Maidstone Celtics home ground). :P

Ha ha. Do you think he was actually a Gills fan, I always wondered if he was a veiled Maidstone supporter! Wonder who he would cheer on!?

New flash just received a text from the Kazakhstan Morning Post and WGHTNHT TV in Kazakhstan requesting 20 passes for Maidstones home tie against Gillingham in the FA CUP, hold on text coming in from Brazil requesting 43 passes for camera crews, sound and transport staff for the big match Maidstone against GFC in the first round of the 2014/15 FA Cup, amazing nothing from Ipswich yet??

I think the tie would be switched to Priestfield Stadium if Maidstone United are drawn at home to Gillingham in The First Round of The FA Cup as there is limited segregation.

The Gallagher Stadium only has a 2,226 capacity, and Maidstone United would get more money if the tie is at Priestfield as they would get a third of the gate receipts.

I doubt if we got Maidstone away that it would be switched. It would most likely be a TV Game on the BBC,or BT Sport and they would want the romance of the game. Also the fact they have a 3G Pitch would make it more appealing. All it would mean is we would get less Tickets.Last year Shortwood Utd played Port Vale in a smaller ground than Maidstone up a narrow hill where Coaches could not get up,and they never switched the ground.

100/1 says we don't get Maidstone in the FA Cup this year, and I thought I read some where teams were not allowed to switch a home tie to an away tie ?

Lol Elgrande

I agree with KFG. Maidstone have a BIG bee in their bonnet about losing the vote on the use of 3G pitches in the higher leagues effectively prohibiting their potential for promotion. As they look good for one again and seem to have similar ability to Fleetwood, a chance to have the whole country watching them potentially beat a league club on a plastic pitch to prove it's worth would be far too big an opportunity to miss! They may lose out on a few thousand pounds by not switching but it would be an investment if they believed they could reach the football league in the next 5 years or so.

There an Isthmian League team who wont reach Division 2 of the Football League for years, if ever, and if we play them home or away GFC will win by five goals, THATS FIVE GOALS, maybe even 7.

Maidstone beat Welling 2-1 today in the FA Cup,that is an impressive result against a good Conference side.Dartford are also through and beat Burgess Hill 3-1.Dover are in the hat after they earned a replay against Eastbourne Borough. Are we destined to play Maidstone?
