Early season thoughts?

Postby Garawa » Wed Aug 17, 2016 2:43 pm

Hard to tell so early. 2 great wins at Southend isn't clear if we are good or Southend bad. As Southend won 3-0 away at Sheffield Utd I think we might have our answer!

Scunthorpe United will be a real test on Saturday, if The Gills can get a result at Glanford Park then that would give us a rough idea of what sort of season is in store for Gillingham this coming season.

I expected a fast start from Sheffield Utd under a big fan of theirs as well Chris Wilder.Their fans feel he has signed poorer players than Adkins did. It`s early days, but at the moment they look poor how they have been for years at this level. When you hear what their players are on it makes their struggles even more shocking! I think Southend are not a bad side, and in both games against us they created a number of chance, but failed to take them.In the league game they should have been 3-0 up before H/T,but they didn`t take their chances. It looks like they did at Sheffield Utd last night! I think so far we look a good side,we play 90% good football,I never saw much hoofball against Bury.Defensively we`re still suspect with a goal conceded in all 4 games so far.I think after 10-15 games we will know more about every side in the division.

Early season tables kind of show who has got what, pretty good bet that one or two sides in the lower half of the table will have started slow and will come roaring up the table come the cold weather, and a couple sitting in the top 6 or 7 will fall like stones.
Three away games on the bounce, what would seem a tough one against Scuny , followed by a " fun game " against what I think will be a weakish Watford side, and then the chance to thump what appears to be a lousy bunch of Shrews will give us a good idea of what we have.
A big win against a bottom feeder like the Shrews would be great. Last year we let the "poor teams" off the hook to many times, and it cost us big time come the end of the season.
I think everything is in Glasgows hands, Scally has done what appears to be a good job in giving him what he wants to get us into a play off spot, so now it is up to him to improve drastically over last years end of season disaster. GO GILLS.
