Postby Garawa » Sat Nov 02, 2019 4:09 pm

- The Gills face their 246th FA Cup tie with a long trip up north to face Sunderland - a club they have met only once in a knockout cup competition, the last time being also a Round 1 FA Cup tie in the 1907/08 season (3-1 win).
- The Gills won their first two meetings with Sunderland (1907 and 1987). Sunderland are unbeaten from the remaining 9 meetings, winning 7 of them.
- The Gills have conceded 4 goals in 3 of their last 4 meetings (including both last season) and their 5 trips to Sunderland have ended 2-4, 1-1, 1-2, 1-2 and 3-4.
- Sunderland started the season unbeaten in 7 with 5 consecutive wins in all competitions. Their last 5 wins span 12 matches and they have 1 win in 4. The Gills have 1 win in 6 matches.
- Sunderland lost their last match - a home defeat to Leicester U21s which ended a sequence of 4 consecutive home wins with 11 goals scored. It is their only home defeat this season and the first in 12 games since a 4-5 home loss to Coventry.
- The tie is the Gills 125th in Round 1 of which they have won 52 and lost 41. 57 games have been away from home and 16 wins came from them.
- The Gills have met same-league opposition in Round 1 of the FA Cup 26 times (9 wins and 11 defeats) - 13 in away games 3 wins and 7 defeats). In all rounds against same league opposition, their record is 18 wins, 16 draws and 30 defeats.

Call the game now, lets get a replay at home, and look at that ,would you believe it, I picked 1-1 in the most complicated game of whatever the hell the thing is called, that surely has put me in the Jeany Ass category ? Is this game on the TV, why did it kickoff at 1 , Gills players scared of going home in the the dark ?

You're the only one that has predicted a draw as well so will be the only one on for the 10 points!!!! On a bit of a roll......................unless another goal goes in of course!

We go and draw against Sunderland, OK it looks like it was a bit of a lucky goal we scored, but we held them to almost 50/50 in possession, had more shots and more shots on goal, lost the corner battle but won the foul battle hands down, yet we play to another draw. I am not complaining we should get a good crowd for the home tie., but hell how do I wish we could have held on to Eaves, he would have had 8 goals by now and we would have had 3 or 4 more wins on the season, as in sitting in in 4th or 5th place in the table. We should thrown a boat load of money at a goal scoring forward either at Christmas or next summer.

Interesting seeing some posts from months ago which stated we were about to sign Kieran {very good at out level} Agard immanently along with 2 other top names but then none materialised. What followed was that we were "chasing the signature of a Championship striker" but that didn't materialise either. Agard then signed a deal with MK Dons who are awful this season and has scored just 1 goal in 16 league and league cup games. I wonder how many players are put off with Evans in charge?

None if the money's right, they know if things had gone right they would be Championship players , and if things go wrong he won't be here. All players agents think about is the money, is my guy good enough to get signed anytime by a Prem or Champ team, ...no , OK then lets see what percentage I can make off him before he drops into the Kent League or where ever.

I was up at 2.15 and on the coach at 4.15.Our tempo wasn’t the best in the first half, and it looked like Sunderland would win comfortably.Evans team talk must have been good as we came out of the blocks very quick and equalised through a big howler from their keeper. We had a lot of the ball and were unlucky not to score more. They still had some chances, and forced Bonham into a very good save on near the end.I was pleased to travel back knowing we have a replay,as I travelled up with not much hope.Got back home at 11pm.
Noircat Premier League Champion 2007,and 2014.Noircat FA Cup (Runner Up 2014).Promoted to the Premier League (Runner Up 2017,and 2020 in the Championship).

That was one hell of a long day, isn't it possible to fly to Sunderland ,it's like 300 miles by road ? At least a draw made the journey home more enjoyable I am sure.
It's a shame the replay is going to be played midweek , so few people can travel three hundred miles on a Tuesday, but I think we should still get a good crowd of Gills fans for the replay.

Seem to remember that they virtually sold out the away end for our Tuesday night league game last season - although their fans are more focused on the league than cup , so wouldn't expect as many this time .

i always said unemployment benefits and Social Security paid out way ,way too much, lol. I am just joking , it would be nice to get a crowd of say 8,000 to watch us win and get to play who in the second round, when is that draw ?

Talking about distances, until recently, Perth Glory had the longest distance in the world for a league fixture. That's away to Wellington Phoenix which if Gillsfan doesn't know, is in Wellington, New Zealand. It's known over here as the long distance derby. I think it's now been beaten by a Russian team.

Yes, they brought nearly 2,000 if I recall for a Tuesday night league game albeit during the summer holidays. Given that they only had 8,000 there for a Saturday afternoon game, they won't bring that much. Although there is a house that backs on to the Rainham End who has Sunderland stickers in his living room window so they are likely to have at least 1!
