Afternoon out in Crewe!!!

Postby mark8364 » Sun Sep 29, 2013 5:55 am

With funds limited at the moment I am just attending the odd game! I went to the Wolverhampton match and yesterday made the trip to Crewe!
The day didn't start great when the 11.19 Milton Keynes to Crewe train was cancelled due to '' no senior conductor''! We were informed of this after sitting on the train for 20 minutes! After an hours delay and with London Midland compensation form safely in back pocket finally made the journey and arrived in Crewe at 2.20!

Right, to the game...It was slow getting going, but once in their stride The Gills completely bossed the game! To be fair, I thought we should have by more! Charlie Lee played like his life depended on it, great performance! Danny Kedwell was absolutely outstanding! Big praise to Steven Gregory! Has his critics, but yesterday he completely bossed the midfield! All round a great team performance and the start of our push up the table!!

Had a good journey back and a big thank you to Paul, the Crewe fan for the can of beer on the train!

Glad you had a chance to see them again mark and enjoyed your day out.

Lee has been outstanding in a number of games this season, thats why I cannot understand why he is transfer listed.

People cannot quote good leadership by saying that MA has only done it to motivate Lee, lets not forget we agreed a fee of £0 from southend
at start of season but Lee couldnt agree personal terms, so its not a motivational thing.

I agree, he proved his worth after being transfer listed the first time so a second time was an insult. Great performance and result although from the sound of the radio Crewe's performance was about as abject as it could possibly be! That said we had to kill the game as leads have been rare for us this season and none have been held so to gain a clean sheet has to be the key and Callum Davies sure adds some oomph!

Unfortunately this throws up some questions. Other than Davies the side wasn't radically different from previous games and neither was the formation so why / how were the players so much better or was it that the opposition was so bad? The ONLY different thing I saw was that in the week we lost to Bradford Martin Allen gave players days off and last week players were training every day. Not sure why we seem to be so flippant about L1 and it certainly makes a difference when we decide to take it seriously!

Hopefully, there's better things to come, and for me the timing is just right. I leave for a holiday in England on Saturday. It's the first time we will have been back since we left in 1971, that's 42 years for those not very good at maths. We will be staying with friends in London to start with and then staying with friends and my wife's brothers in Maidstone, Sheerness and Dover. We will also travel as much as we can all over and hope to see a bit of Europe as well. Of course I'll be seeing the Gills, my mate in Dover is an avid fan. We used to stand together at the Gillingham end when we were kids and teenagers. I'm really looking forward to it and it will be interesting to compare it with my team here, Perth Glory. The Australian Socceroos will be playing Canada in a friendly at Craven Cottage whilst I'm there as well, so I hope to see that as well. I've never stopped following the Gills and now with the computors it's so easy. It used to be very hard getting any information on them, now it feels as I know all there is to know what with all your updates. I'm not sure which games I'll be watching as our itinerary is pretty haphazard at the moment but if you see someone at the game with a socceroos cap, shirt and scarf, then it's a fair bet it could be me.

WOW!!!!! I bet the Gills sure look a hell of a lot different since the last time you saw them!!! I was born 5 years after you left!

If you decide to fancy a meet for a drink before the game then please let us know on here, would be great to meet up and I don't think we have really done yet this season so we are due! If not, make sure you let us know which games you will attend so we can look out for you!

All the best.
