All this about he got the fans on side. Which fans were those, the semi-silent shirts in the Medway Stand? He did a great job last season, but almost messed it up over the last few games. He was just a bit too unbalanced for my tastes and we now need a manager who is more about football coaching and less about silly sound bites.

It`s a good choice for instant stability, and with Taylor being interim Manager it gives him a goal to do well and earn the job permanently. He is not my choice as Manager, but I will back him.Hopefully we will see more Football being played, but Bradford and Wycombe fans say don't hold your breath as it was all hoof ball for them.At the moment there is not much risk as it is only temporary, and gives Scally a chance to look around should Taylor not get the job Full-Time.As long as we stay up everyone will be pleased come May.

I will miss MA.He brought some unusual things to Gills FC. Success,Fun,amusement, calibre. He was good as a pundit too on TV.
I just hope we do not slip into mediocrity. We have had that for too many seasons.
Let's see.

Now that the crazy period is over, settling down for a bit of calm won't do the players any harm and might bring out the better of Whelpdale, Weston and McDonald. I get the feeling that we have better players than some of his previous clubs - Bradford were a bit of an enigma as players struggled to live up to the level of expectation. The midfield has offered virtually zilch in the whole of Allen's reign being asked to be far more defensive, get that back how we know it can be and we will be fine.

Just realised I have a loss predicted for this game so it looks like I am out of the cup at the first hurdle!!!!!! ;-)

strange Rob to say about the budget last season. The season we went up to championship was on the back of huge player budgets and record signings martin didn't have that. Also if scally had been as quick in decision making Taylor would have gone we hadnt won a game that season by the stage he has sacked martin.
Personally I will never forget winning a championship no one else has delivered that in 50yrs, we may not of played attractive football but so what we have a real piece of silver in the cabinet all the other promotions were through the back door play offs not as top dog.
It seems we will never have stability and a long term plan now Scally has said he doesn't believe in it.

Having said that, and we can't know for sure, but it seemed as if the players were fully behind Stimson and Hessy but clearly hardly at all behind Allen! We were on course to finish the season on 38 points and certain relegation. If it was evident the manager wasn't able to address major playing staff issues surely there was only one course of action for the chairman regardless of past performance?

I don't accept that for one minute. We went into this campaign with, arguably, a weaker squad than finished last season. There can be no reason for this other than the Dubai bank account of a certain used photocopier salesman.

Maybe, but I believe we paid a small amount for German who was then surplus to requirements a couple of weeks later and Bayo won't be our lowest earners. I doubt they were brought in only by Scally. And we have read about Callum Davies and Leon Legge, two of our best players in my book, either not being played or wanting to leave this season. The squad is definitely weaker but the only similar issues I recall last season was Allen not playing Connor Essam and effectively shutting out Jack Payne which led to his departure, both players going on to move to higher league opposition.

Does anyone honestly believe that financial matters at GFC are influenced or taken by anyone other than Scally ? How many so- called financial directors have come and gone ?

Oh I think you're right. But I am sure the playing side of things was still the managers domain and Scally just said yes or no. Had we kept hold of those players and signed different players to Gregory, Weston and Bayo I think we would have felt we had a pretty decent squad. Maybe Scally forced the Payne one through, we won't know, but as he said obviously yes to the Allen players that buck surely stops at the manager.

Perhaps, but what financial constraints were applied. For example I don't believe Adebayo was expensive, he's at the end of a career.

Maybe. Didn't he leave us and return to Northampton as they offered more money? Unless he was no longer required there despite having a good season last term, I'm not sure he would come here for a drop in wages? I still look at some of the names that have found themselves at League 2 level having been out of work that must have been quite cheap and yet we signed two League 1 players whose wages must surely have been higher.

Maybe the trouble is we got used to the purchases under Pulis. We spent a relative fortune on players in that era; Hess, Taylor, Akinbiye, Asaba, Shaw, Marlon etc. We all know how that went eventually. We can't afford to spend £200,000 + on lots of different players anymore, if we ever could and now we go for what we can afford.
Every manager has different ideas about the type of player we need and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.
