Wolves (H)

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Thu Jan 02, 2014 8:24 pm

This will be a tough game against a side that have an expensive squad and are sitting high in the League. We had an extra days rest with our game at Stevenage postponed yesterday.Wolves travelled to Tranmere and drew 1-1 at Prenton Park.Hopefully the extra days rest will help us get something from the game. The game is on Sky,so hopefully we play a lot better than the last time we were on TV against Brackley.

Team? Gills are expected to sign young Striker Jack Marriott on loan from Ipswich tomorrow, the Striker scored 9 goals in 9 games during a loan spell at Conference side Woking recently.Elliott Hewitt is also expected to return on loan from Ipswich, but he is likely to need more time to get fit.

Would like a good performance tonight so I can hold my head up high here in S Staffs - a lot of Wolves fans in the village and I need some bragging rights

What a fantastic win! I thought we defended fantastic as a Team, and dealt with Wolves pressure well. The first half we didn`t threaten the Wolves goal, and they had the better of the play and chances.I thought Gregory was our best player in the game, especially in the first half. The game changed when Dack and Akinfenwa came on.Dack ran at them and played some good passes, and Bayo was strong and his flick ons were useful.Kedwell came close to scoring when his shot hit the post and bounced back.We won a rare corner in the last minute, and the ball fell to Cody who scored from inside the area.Priestfield erupted and so did I in my living room! I would have been happy with a point, and we somehow nicked the win.It made a change for us to to grab a late winner for a change :D .

This was an unexpected win,and moves us up to 14th.What a start to the Year.It was great to finally play well on TV and win.Credit to Taylor who picked the right Team.Legge had a great game,as did Harriman, and Gregory.Nelson made an important save which he tipped away, and he looked confident. The whole Team played well. When you compare our Team to Wolves their budget is massive, and players like Doyle are on massive wages. This was a much better performance from when we played at Wolves back in August, hopefully we can take the confidence into our next game.

Can't disagree with most of that summation; Wolves had majority of the play but they didn't really threaten us. I'm not entirely sure we played "well" - we don't seem able to keep the ball on the floor and retain possession but hey ho its three points added to the total which I am more than pleased with. :D

Time for Scally to reduce admission to a quid, open the ground for 30 minutes , teams come on the pitch, ref tosses a coin to see if we play 3 or 5 minutes of extra time , we score and everyone goes back to the bar, seems no one needs to be standing out in the in the cold for 2 hours.
What a win, guess it just go to show you don't need more than one kick to win, although how we managed to win only having 35% of the play, and 5 shots against their 18, I don't know, but who cares, that puts us 20 points from safety, 20 points from a possible 60 , and then the summer to rebuild. Well done the Big Blue Machine.
Now I can sit and watch the FA Cup a happy camper, although there are no real Giant Killing opportunities, the draw was not that kind to the little guys giving them away games against the big boys and a pay day.

I've been back is Oz for four weeks now and by chance I saw Gills v Wolves was live on Setanta channel at 4am Saturday. I don't have that one but immediately forked out $60 dollars for 2 months subscription, the minimum allowed, and watched the game. I must admit I recorded it and watched it later, and was very pleasantly surprised. Taylor seems to have improved things since I saw the game against PNE. The conditions were pretty bad yet they still passed a lot better than when I saw them. Hessenthaler and Dack look like good prospects and Gregory, who I had a dig at previously, had a good game. I also thought Akenfenwa showed some good touches. Kedwell put in a solid shift, although as the commentator said, he was in obvious pain. I was surprised the new boy didn't come on for 10 minutes at the end. After being completely underwhelmed in October, I am now feeling confident of us being in the same division next year.

Not a great performance but an effective one leading to a very welcome result. Well done to all the players.
