Swindon (H)

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Thu Jan 16, 2014 12:17 am

We`re back at home on Saturday against Swindon.Last week was a really poor performance, and the players did not turn up at Colchester. With the rivalry against Swindon, fans will be demanding a much better performance.Swindon come into this game off a 2-0 defeat at Stevenage,so that should give us confidence that we can get the three points aswell. We do have a great record at home against Swindon, and have not lost to them at Priestfield since December 1986.

Team? What Team would you play against Swindon? Would you rest Kedwell for his op?

With 3 points well within our grasp I wouldn't alter the formation against Wolves a great deal. Having had 2 games in which Marriott hasn't dirtied his boots, I would play him alongside McDonald and rest Kedwell who seems to be playing the full 90 since we found out he needed an op!! Maybe test Swindon's low away confidence by pushing forward so perhaps bring in Connor Smith alongside Hessy. Regaining a decent percentage of possession will be the key.

I so so so so so want to win.

Kentucky did make me laugh that we have only failed to win at home once to the swine since 1986, we have only played them a couple of times since then havent we??

In fact 2006 was the first time we had played them in 19 years so it kinda waters down that point. We have only played them 4 times in recent years but yes it is a great record. 3 wins and 1 draw.

Lets hope for a big effort from the players, we really do need to get the ball and keep it a bit. Its our ground we should not share the ball so much. :)

Don't get excited were going to lose again, not a chance we can beat the swine, in fact I am thinking of buying a house in the Swindon area so I can reallocate there in the next few years , then I can become a swine supporter yah who go swindon. (reverse phy collagy ), on the soccer gods, I use it on the golf gods and it works ...................Ok not as often as I would like , but it does work......sometimes.

I think we might play this Team against Swindon..

Nelson
Harriman,Legge,Barrett,Martin
Gregory
Fagan,Hessenthaler,Weston
Akinfenwa,McDonald

Subs:Howard,Hewitt,Davies,Dack,Linganzi,Smith,Marriott

Akinfenwa replacing Kedwell as the big target man,and he can grab a goal or two as we saw against Tranmere.Marriott,Smith, and Dack to come off the bench in the second half.

Before the defeat to Swindon in 1986,the last home defeat to Swindon came back in 1956,now that is a good record :D .

A vastly improved performance. Gregory was solid, Harriman was absolutely everywhere and Hessy grows with every game. Leon Legge deserved his man of the match scoring the effective winning goal as well as a solid last ditch clearance to prevent an equaliser. With 2 very solid home results against very good sides and with clean sheets to boot, it makes the Colchester result even harder to accept.

I don't expect anything other than a trouncing on Friday but these results need to be built upon by beating sides around us instead of allowing them to close the gap on us.

Whooooooo hoo! Thank you Gills, cracking afternoon. MOTM in my opinion was Harriman, good to see him get his first goal. Congrats to Legge who did actually get MOTM, he had a good game too. Cody wasn't in form an should've scored at least 2! He is frustrating! Hopefully his mate Olly ribs him for it!
So, was Olly Murs there to watch Cody or is he a Swine fan, as I also heard today?

I don't think he supports Swindon. I'm sure he was there for Cody as he was in the player lounge with them. IS he from Kent? I know Cody is a local boy and they grew up in the same team so it makes sense. Bit annoyed he sat with the riff raff and not us lot next to the VIP box! ;-)

Cody is great friends with Olly, and they played at Witham Town together. They`re both from Essex, and Olly supports Man Utd ;) .

I thought we played really well and deserved our win.Taylor was spot on with the Team he named.Harriman was moved to Right Midfield,so Hewitt could play Right back.It was a brave move as it didn`t work so well against Oldham, but it worked perfectly today.Harriman was a big threat going forward and he is really quick and caused Swindon problems all game.Hewitt defended well and had a good game seeing as he played his first 90 minutes in a while.Legge had his best game in a while in defence, and was up there with Harriman for MOTM today.Gregory had another great game, and he has quietened the boo boys.We got in Swindon`s faces from the start, and that was what was missing last week at Colchester. We didn`t let Swindon settle, and we had some good chances in the game.Cody had two one on ones, but unfortunately his shots went either side of the goal both times. We did take the lead when we were awarded a freekick not too far outside of the area.Martin put the freekick in,and Legge headed the ball past their keeper to put us 1-0 up.Not long after Harriman let fly with a belter of a shot that their keeper tipped over, surprisingly the ref gave a goal kick.Swindon came close with a chance, but Nelson had to react quickly to save low down.Harriman made a great tackle in the area to stop Swindon which could have lead to a goal.We went in 1-0 up at Half-time,but could have had one or two more goals.

Swindon had a spell where they looked like they would get back in the game.Their best player on show Pritchard came close with a header which he should have scored. He looked a decent player, but I thought our defence handled him well.Legge also made a great block to stop which looked like it would have lead to a goal.Taylor brought on Dack and good play from him winning the ball back by the corner flag lead to our second goal,he found Martin who then found Harriman who put the ball in the back of the net to secure the three points. That was his first professional goal in Football, and he deserved to score with how well he played.Fagan looked good as the experienced Striker when he came on aswell.

It was a great Team performance, and a great response after last weeks poor performance at Colchester.I thought it was an entertaining game.We have moved up to 14th and have got into the 30+ point mark which is good to see. With Brentford up next away,I think it was important that we got three points today.

I think Kentucky's assessment of the game is spot on.

What was really enjoying about the win today was we looked comfortable with it. It felt like we were going to win because of the attitude of the players.

Only one bad note for me was I thought Myles Weston was very poor today. So many chances to cause problems and gave the ball away instead. He was the only low note for me.

Thought the swindon guy should have got booked for Diving in the first half, it was right in front of the ref, he deliberately put himself on the ground and the ref saw it and waved play on, I think he should have got a booking.

Great game, really loved it.

A more commanding game than thrilling but a solid performance all round.

Don't know why I thought Cody was a Kent lad.

Anything that puts 3 points on the old scoreboard is fantastic, 3 points closer to that magic 51 point mark, well done Gillingham.
