Brentford (A)

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Wed Jan 22, 2014 9:47 pm

We Travel to Brentford on Friday Night for our Live Televised Match.Brentford have not lost since October at Home, and sit 2nd in League One.I think for us to get anything from the game we need to press for 90 minutes like we did against Wolves, and Swindon. They have a lot of quality, and I expect a defeat so anything gained is a bonus.

Team? I don't think you can change the Team after last weeks performance and win against Swindon.Harriman at RM with Hewitt at RB worked really well last time, and hopefully it will again.

Nelson
Hewitt,Legge,Barrett,Martin
Gregory
Harriman,Hessenthaler,Weston
Akinfenwa,McDonald

Subs:Howard,Davies,Smith,Dack,Linganzi,Marriott,Fagan
Noircat Premier League Champion 2007,and 2014.Noircat FA Cup (Runner Up 2014).Promoted to the Premier League (Runner Up 2017,and 2020 in the Championship).

It doesn't matter about the team, it will be a trouncing. They are scoring for fun, not conceding and have won 13 in 15 with no defeats!!!!!!!! Hang on a mo.....................they are due a defeat then....................and we do seem to do better against the top sides..................but, we are awful on TV..................0-0 then for me!!! :-D

Only game to be played on Friday night ,( no one wants to watch FA Cup games involving Arsenal and Coventry or Forest and who PNE ?) eyes of the World and Watford look towards the sunny shores of Brentford where the mighty blues travel to play, and the final score is........... Brentford 4-1 Gillingham, 1 red card and 3 yellows, and the blues play most of the second half with 10 men.

1066 - you must be a badly failed pessimist with your expectation of tomorrow's game

Whilst I'm not expecting all three points I think (hope) we will give a good account of ourselves

Shouldn't it be I am a badly failed optimist, if I was a failed pessimist wouldn't that make me an optimist and I'd be screaming Gills big win tomorrow 5-0 to the blues ,Go Gillingham ? OK to early in the morning to try and figure that one out, got to head for work at 4.30 temp is minus 21 C with the wind chill minus 40 and she won't get out of bed and go and start my car. Everything I've done for this woman, even bought her a new vacuum for Christmas and had planned to get her a nice new dish washer for her b'day, well she can kiss that good bye.
Anyway it's all reverse " sygoligy " old darling , I used it against Wolves and said we would get thumped , they beat Wolves and said the same thing against Swindon I think it was, like I say reverse "sicolagy ", can't win, won't win, impossible to win, ppsst then we win sssshhhhh. Go Big Blue.

A defeat for us in a very wet West London.I watched on Sky and was really proud of the Players. We pressed high and had a right go.Two defensive mistakes have cost us from getting a point.Nelson made 4-5 great saves to keep us in the game.Brentford looked threatening on the break and we were defending well, but Douglas unmarked tapped home to put Brentford 1-0 up midway through the first half.Cody found himself through one on one and did the hard bit with a couple of decent touches, but his shot went wide of the post.Brentford to be fair could have gone in 2-0 at Half-time,but Nelson made a great save to tip Judge`s shot over the bar.We started the second half well and looked to find that equaliser.Brentford were looking good and Nelson denied Judge again to keep us in the game.Brentford won a corner and Barrett who has a tendency to grab hold of defenders was all over Craig and it was a clear penalty.Trotta stepped up and put Brentford 2-0 up.That was gutting as we were in the game with Dack and Akinfenwa pulling the strings after coming on.

Credit to the Players we didn`t let our heads drop and collapse and let Brentford get 3 or 4-0 up.Two minutes later McDonald through again this time beat Button to pull a goal back.Donaldson was denied by Nelson to kill the game off.Taylor brought on Marriott who had a great chance to equalise, but Button got down well to deny him.In stoppage time Donaldson was denied again by Nelson. That was it,but we can be proud of the performance playing that well at a side that had not lost at Home since October. Two defensive mistakes have cost us a point in the end.If we play as well for the rest of the season, then we should stay up.

MOTM- Stuart Nelson who kept us in the game with a number of great saves.

I'm not sure I would class them as mistakes as such. Barrett threw his body on the line for 2 fantastic blocks and then undone all the hard work by conceding the penalty. 2-1 against a side who are beating virtually everybody I am more than happy with PROVIDED we play a similar way against sides around us and not just show off because the cameras were on us. It could have been 2-2 which would have been more than what many would have hoped for.

Yeah both Barrett and Legge made some great blocks, but Barrett has been grabbing hold of players for ages, and finally got caught which was costly for us.

If a penalty was given every time a player grabbed another in the penalty box we would have 10 penalties a game for a few weeks! Good effort from the Gills though!

Proud of the team tonight. If we can get that kind of tenacity and spirit more often we will be safe in L1.

I watched the game on TV this morning in Australia. What a difference Peter Taylor has made with the team since that PNE game I saw at Priestfield. I agree with most of Kentucky's summary. Although we played well, I thought Brentford still deserved to win. I know players grab each other when crosses come over but Barrett's foul was blatant. I watched the replays and he more or less put his arms around his neck and threw him to the ground. It was a 100%, nailed on penalty. Problem was, it wasn't really necessary, and Barrett had played well up to then.I thought Hessanthaler would have got a go, and Marriott looked lively when he came on. I thought our goalie was man of the match, but with this showing, surely we should stay up.

I think Barrett will be kicking himself today really, it was such a daft tug to simply hand them a second having worked so hard to keep them out. But then I'd rather it happen in a game we probably won't win than a game against a such around us to dropped a point or two.

I think other than giving away the penalty Barrett was superb. The frustrating thing was Barrett played no attempt to win the ball, and he dragged Craig down.I`m sure he will be annoyed with himself.
