MK Dons (A)

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Sun Mar 23, 2014 8:02 pm

After the defeat to Crewe we have a game a few days later to try and get over the defeat yesterday. This will be our last game until 5th April, with our game at Peterborough next week postponed due to them being in the JPT Final. This is the start of a tough run of games,so the defeat to Crewe could be costly if we don't pick up a few points from these games.I would take a point now from MK Dons, but fear a comfortable MK Dons win. With this being our last game for nearly two weeks,I hope we have a good go and try and cause a surprise result.

What changes would you make for the trip to MK Dons?

I would start by taking any and all sharp objects away from Lidbid, having the bus driver take us to Wimbledon and then plead it was a genuine mistake, who knew they had moved, but failing that I would bringing Hassley , Hessythingey , the old managers kid in from the start, and tell this spineless bunch of idiots that the MKDons players unlike Gillinghams players don't give up when they are 0-2 down, they scored 3 times in 10 minutes last time out.
I hope management arrange a "friendly" for next weekend, don't care who against, just someone where we could bang 10 or 12 in so these guys can get a hang on what they are supposed to be doing and where the goal is, the other teams goal that is.
As for Tuesday nights team what the hell does it matter, can not help but thinking were going to get our asses handed to us on a plate, but you never know, maybe we rise to the occasion and come away with a 2-2 tie ?
Anyone who knows where Lidbids parked his caravan this week pop round and give a look in a couple of times until we get our next win, it's the neighborly thing to do. Just think of poor Mrs. Lidbid living with old suicide Charlie, eating on paper plates with plastic knives and forks, poor woman, chin up dear don't worry he's going through the change, change of team that is, he will be supporting 'ULL next season, go Kingston Rovers United Athletic City Tigers.

Its OK gillsfan; feeling a little better today - suns shining, I have tree surgeons in the garden 'pollarding' my trees and a nice cup of coffee. Who knew cutting branches from trees was called pollarding? Just because they have all the equipment doesn't mean they have to be all fancy! Three people to cut one tree - amazing. One is up the tree, playing Chris Bonnington with harnesses attached everywhere whilst one collects the debris and the third feeds the chipper machine - very professional! I was going to have a go with a rusty old saw and a bit of rope but Mrs. Lidbid wouldn't allow it. £380 quid down the drain I reckon!!

£380 - they must have seen you coming old chap ;-) - just had two Sycamores and a Lime "pollarded" for less than £100 and with all the refuse disposed of.

Well they did look and sound somewhat "pikey" but they were able to produce evidence that they had adequate insurance.

Pigott has been recalled by Charlton,so we will need a replacement I should think with Kedwell still out for a while. Will we rely on German and Birchall who have one goal between them, which was in League 2?

Not sure what is going on with Birchall. Makes it onto the bench and then gets a surprise appearance but only for 2 minutes and then doesn't make the bench again. A bit odd really, surely its not for sentimental reasons! Unless he is injured again?

I'm not sure he will bother with another expensive bit part loanee unless we get one from a club willing to pay his wages which has been rarer this season than it was in League 2. I guess he will play Cody & Bayo with Weston and Fagan as options. With Lee back and Dack and Hessenthaler not being used a lot in the last couple of games, we do have midfield options to accommodate it. I would prefer that than have another un-used bench warmer who needs time to adjust to the players, at this stage of the season we can't afford for a player to take 2 or 3 games to settle in whilst ones we do have don't make the bench.

Lee looks like a man possessed lately fighting for a new deal so must be a certainty to start games. Gregory won't (nor should be) be dropped, Hessy has made the place his own leaving Dack, Weston, Linganzi, Harriman and Fagan to take the last midfield spot, plenty of options even if one joined Cody up top really.

I forgot about Fagan as an option upfront,I suppose its because we have not seen him play there much,as he has been used on the wing.Upfront is his position so we might aswell start him,and then bring Bayo on at Half-Time on Tuesday.Bayo wont be able to start after playing 90 minutes on Saturday.

So Taylor will be ringing the changes, hopefully with a view to get something from the game and not just for the sake of it after Saturday!

What changes ? I have a feeling if we don't do anything silly in the first half we can come away with a point, got a feeling it could be a 2-2 tie.

I'm beginning to think Martin Allen is back at the club, the rhetoric of the past couple of games have been totally wrong and yet these words were said during press conferences. Changed the formation tonight but that is virtually it apart from Fagan coming in, Bayo won't start 2 games so close so that's hardly a surprise. Not sure any of this is fooling anyone to be honest.

Well I really don't know how to feel about Gills any more! An unbelievable result tonight and according to Twitter and The Wall on the website, Fagin and Weston were fantastic! The defence appears to have been heroic with Barrett and Legge thwarting Dons every time they attacked. No substitution for Gills either as far as I could tell, so virtually the same 11 apart from Beyo, (who I thought was the best player on Saturday), who were so poor in the last game have all been brilliant tonight! I was so frustrated on Saturday, (no lewd comments please Gillsfan), and feel drained now just by following on the internet. But the question still remains, why are we so inconsistent? We could be promotion contenders if we had won the games we should have! We must be almost safe now, so it may yet be a reasonable season, but I don't think it will feel that way.

Its the question we ask every year and after Saturday, you just knew that we were likely to get something there or beat Rotherham after losing to Crewe. Virtually every side seems to be losing silly games after great wins and vice versa and I guess the sides that don't to a degree go up! If it was more predictable (like the Premier League) it would be boring!

3 out of 6 is the same however you look at it but it is very frustrating. This has happened a few times this season and is dangerous. MK Dons are on 55 points, we are on 48 and Crewe 40 (would have been 43 had they won just 5 behind us).

Had we beat Crewe and lost to MK Dons, it would have had the Dons on 58, us on 48 and Crewe on 37 (or 40 had they won tonight). By losing to sides around us we are given them a chance to leapfrog us. Total points are irrelevant so long as there are 4 sides with a worse record than us but we give them that opportunity. We beat Sheffield Utd away then lost at home to Oldham, we beat Wolves then lost to Colchester, beat Port Vale and lost at Stevenage and now this. Some will say 3 out of 6 is still 3 out of 6 but it's not quite when points are gifted to teams around us when we are dropping them.

Wow where did that result come from? After Saturday you could only see a comfortable MK Dons win.But as we say a lot this is typical Gillingham! I listened on Gillsplayer and it was all MK Dons, they put us under a lot of pressure. We defended brilliant as a Team and got a smash and grab win, which is a massive result for us.I think we probably only need 4 points max to stay up now.I`m pleased Fagan scored as he has been getting a bit of stick, but he hasn`t been playing in his best position upfront much.We can now enjoy the 11 day break and look forward to Rotherham at Home now without worrying about our position.

Credit to the 341 Gills fans that made the trip, they made a decent amount of noise on Gillsplayer.

Fantastic stuff Mr G. (what he say ,what he say) ?? Just think if I had just had six rotten numbers in the lottery tonight I would be 40 million richer.
Great win tonight for the mighty Gills, that should just about put us safe, and means Mr. Lidbit can come off the 24 hour watch he has been on since Saturday.

It was a great result, Barrett, nelson, Cody,Weston all made big contributions but make no mistake, this was a dire match which we would have lost nine times out of ten with that approach.
I don't make many games these days and I feel sorry for the regulars if that is our typical game plan. The sadness of football is that the defensive mind set is now all persuasive.
At league 1 level watching a side playing one up front is so awful it makes you want to stay at home. We had five minutes of proper football, in which time we scored and looked dangerous.
After that it was back to a series of hopeless punts upfield or putting the ball in row z. Dont get me wrong, I'll take 3 away points every time I can get them, but paying £20 a ticket for that stuff is poor value. Every respect to the GFC travelling fans and to the players for heroic defending and hard work- apart from Linganzi who is the proverbial waste of space.
