Tranmere (H)

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Mon Apr 14, 2014 5:44 pm

The first of two important games over the Easter period. This is arguably our biggest game of the season,if we win the game we could make ourselves just about safe and maybe make the point gap bigger below us.A defeat would put us right in trouble and needing a win or more from the last three games. We don't want to go into the Shrewsbury game on the 3rd of May needing a win.Tranmere have won their last two matches, and play their game in hand tomorrow away at Crawley. We need to defend a lot better than we have recently, and with kids for a quid we will be having a bigger attendance than normal.

What Formation and Team would you play against Tranmere on Friday? For me Cody and Bayo need to start together.

Play anyone that has scored a goal this season,( excluding own goals,) the way our defense plays this could be another Rotherham score line, only hopefully with us going home with the points.

I think we should go for the game, and set up 4-4-2.Hopefully Legge will play as we have missed him. Also Kedwell on the bench would be a great option to bring on for Bayo around 60 minutes.

If its a draw Steve, you are our first cup winner!!! A loss and it goes to the next game.

It would be fantastic to win the Cup Competition, but hopefully we can get a win against Tranmere so we can be just about safe :) .

I listened on Gillsplayer and we did sound the better side.We seemed to have quite a few chances especially in the first half, but lacked the cutting edge. You do start to worry that it might not be our day,but Dack stepped up and scored a really good goal according to the commentary. The perfect way to celebrate signing a new 4 year deal this week. There was the usual nerves in the last few minutes and they sent their keeper up for the corner. Then the commentary said it was 2 on 1 with the keeper out of his goal, and Cody sealed the win.Its a massive result which hopefully should be enough to keep us up now.If anything we probably need a point at most, but results might mean we don't need another point.

Hopefully once Easter is out of the way,Contracts can start being sorted out.

I think we often lose these types of games. Tranmere weren't anything special, 20 goal Ryan Lowe had a quiet game but then I think they were just happy not to lose given both sides had similar concerns. Akpo-Akpro looked lively and as the game progressed we could so easily have conceded and ended up losing so to win 2-0 in tricky circumstances has to be a great result. It isn't often in the season we find ourselves in the penalty area under little or no pressure with no opposition close by and yet still fluff our chances yet this happened several times yesterday and despite looking lively and most likely to score, this missed opportunities made me nervous so all in all more than happy.

What made me laugh was the final minute. The Tranmere keeper up for a last second corner was beaten to the punch by Nelson and the ball fell to Cody on the edge of the box. He ran up to the halfway line and seemed to think about holding onto the ball to waste a few seconds despite the urges of the Priestfield faithful. Even shooting wide for a goal kick would have wasted a few seconds but he was still reluctant to shoot. Under close company from two defenders he eventually took the chance and the ball bounced into the net as Fon Williams charged back, burying his face in the turf as he watched it go in. Part of me can't help thinking that he he thought the chance was much simpler than Hessenthaler's and that he would never hear the end of it if he missed. That moment of indecisiveness almost caught him out but what a feeling knowing the game was safe.....and probably League 1 football next season as well.
