Biggest surprise of the season.

Postby Garawa » Tue Apr 29, 2014 3:24 pm

What has been your biggest surprise of the season? Could be good or bad, just don't say Martin Allen being sacked!!!!

For me, it is the level that Dack and Hessenthaler really came into the fore. There is always a youngster that has a little run but Dack has shown that he could become one of the most vital players to us in years creativity-wise whilst Hessy has shown up some much senior players and did very well in midfield. I am sure he will get much stronger over the next couple of seasons and that is really exciting provided he hasn't been pinched off of us by then. The teams they were facing really rammed that point home to me as well.

I would say that same as you Gary.We knew Dack was a good talent, but he has stepped up another level under Taylor. You expect Dack to chip in with goals most games now, next season could be even better for him.Hessenthaler came into the squad out of nowhere, and has looked League one level. The highlight has to be his 40 yard goal against Coventry. It`s good that he is tied up for 4 years after this season, and he can play a lot of games for the Club.
Noircat Premier League Champion 2007,and 2014.Noircat FA Cup (Runner Up 2014).Promoted to the Premier League (Runner Up 2017,and 2020 in the Championship).

All jokes aside for me it really was Allen being sacked, I think I had us down for a win against Colchester who had been ear marked for relegation by the footie magazine I read, and GFC with Allen at the helm had been made to look like the class of the promoted teams .
Then it went from bad to worse with the Wolves game but I kind of gave him a pass, new season, good Wolves team and I was still convinced he would turn the team around following the draws against Brentford, Swindon and Bristol C . I thought OK here we go, Gills on the up, be pushing for a top 10 spot by Christmas and promotion by seasons end.
Other then that I honestly don't think anything really surprised me this year, the young players coming through was nice to see, but I think that is supposed to happen isn't it ?
I had hoped for great things from Cody, yes he scored 17 but I think I was thinking more along the lines of 25.
Shipping goals like a sinking ship and not being able to score should tell out mighty leader where we stand and I think after the great season we had last year I can safely say I was a lot more disappointed than surprised.
