Shrewsbury (H)

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Tue Apr 29, 2014 11:51 pm

The last game of the season is here already, the season has gone very quick. We play already relegated Shrewsbury Town at Priestfield.Luckily we`re safe already so it should be a nice relaxing game for us.It would be nice to finish the season off with a win.Hopefully the game wont be a boring one like Yeovil at home back in 2007,with both Clubs having nothing to play for.

What Team would you play for the last game? Would you try a youngster or two out? Play Birchall, and German?

I can't see German or Birchall fitting in with our plans for next season so whilst it would be good for them to feature, I think we have an opportunity to start planning for next season. I don't think we should make wholesale changes like Burton last season, it would be good to go into the new season not on the back of a defeat again. Perhaps a mix of youth to test for next season and experienced players that are leaving to show one last time that they are worth a new contract. We all know what Bayo can do so I would replace him with Millbank as he seems to be breaking into the side having been taken to Preston. The same goes with Nelson who hasn't missed a minute this season. I don't know what level Baxter is or whether another back up keeper will be sought after but we have seen nothing of him so far and would give him a go. I just hope that even if nobody has been told that Scally has told Taylor yes or no regarding staying for next season so that we don't end up simply wasting this game.

Butcher .......... Legge ..........McKain .......... Muggleton

Whelpdale .......... Gregory .......... Lee .......... Weston

Yeah I don't think German,or Birchall will play.I thought I would ask though if others thought they would.I think Kedwell will start if he is 100% ok,with Cody.We might see Dack and Hess together for most of the game.Hopefully Fish will be on the bench to make a 15 minute cameo.Millbank may be on the subs bench and get a late run out.

Team?

Nelson
Harriman,Legge,Barrett,Martin
Hewitt,Hessenthaler,Gregory,Dack
Kedwell,McDonald

Subs: Baxter,Fish?,Whelpdale,Lee,Weston,Millbank?,Akinfenwa

Phone this one in, doesn't matter who we paly, no one will remember this game come next season, unless we loose 0-5 or something crazy like that and even then people will say well it didn't matter. If we win 5-0 then they will say that's what your supposed to do, they were already relegated had nothing to play for, so it's a lose ,lose game no matter how you look at it. I hope for the guys and gals that go it turns out to be a 5-3 win for the Gills, at least give them something to cheer about.
I expect this to be about the smallest gate of the season, maybe 4000+ if the weather is nice, season ticket holders who hate their wives will probably be there and of course the good folks who meet in the Cricketers. I hope the team we see this week will not look like any team we field at the start of next season, think this team has peaked, time to bring some new faces in.

The crowd is looking quite healthy looking at the online Ticket Sales.I reckon we will have over 6,000.

I thought the game was flat at times, and had the feeling of a pre-season game. But it was pleasing that we played a lot of Football, even if at times we didn`t go forward with it.The weather was lovely, and I had sunburn to show for it afterwards. It did look at times like we was heading for a 0-0,but Barrett scored a good header to put us ahead. But typical Gills we conceded a soft goal late on and that summed up our season.Dack had a great attempt tipped over,Fish came on which was niced to see and nearly scored.Kedwell had a header tipped over, and Cody did everyone right but hit the post.We had chances, and Shrewsbury had a few good attempts which Nelson did well to save.

I thought Dack was MOTM,he was all over the pitch,he won the ball back and had great energy. He was unlucky that the keeper pulled off a great save.Bayo was brilliant with his hold up play, and did some lovely flicks and skills. He won most of his headers aswell.I hope that is not the last time we see Bayo in a Gills shirt.

It was great to see Fish back in a Gills shirt after 9-10 months out. Also it was good to see Millbank make his debut, but unfortunately he didn`t really get a sniff.

The decisions will start shortly, and it will be a big rebuilding job in the Summer
