Please explain

Postby gillsfan1066 » Sun May 04, 2014 1:06 pm

Somebody please explain to me why Gillingham had as many fans at the Shrewsbury game yesterday, a game that meant ABSOLUTLY NOTHING to either team, as they did against Wolves, more than against Coventry or Sheffield, in fact the THIRD highest attendance of the season ? Trying to figure out if ...'...........
a) football should be played in the summer.
b) everyone came to see the players that are going to be moving on in the summer.
c) the fans came to voice their support for Taylor to get a new contract.
d) they needed to get a football fix to start getting fired up for the World Cup
e) Scally bought fish and chips for everyone.
Anyone??

Sunny bank holiday weekend. Last game before the summer hols.

I dont know mate.

I do know that I stupidly thought we would see a team that was up for it. Playing for their contracts, pride for the fans.

It was a damp squib though. Typical end of season game with no atmosphere, no excitement, basically if I had not been to the pub and had a laugh with good friends beforehand a waste of an afternoon.

I know a lot of these games at the end can be like this, but as I said I foolishly hoped to see people trying to impress, I was wrong. Sign up Nelson, let the rest go and lets rebuild the whole team.

I kind of agree with you, this whole club up needs a shake up from top to bottom, but of course it will never happen, unless someone who started supporting the Gills a few years ago wins the lottery and has 50 million quid to play with.
No one in their rite mind invests in a team like GFC unless they have more money than sense, the best we can ever hope for is a spell in the Championship and I will be happy with that.
I actually found myself looking at the Crystal Palace and Norwich scores sometimes even before the Gills score towards the end of the season. I will always be a Gillingham Football Club supporter, wear my scarf and Gills gloves all winter, but I honestly think I am slowly running out of enthusiasm, lol, lol.

yes it was disappointing and after the poor season i hoped that gills would turn it on. they didn't and at any other time in the season this would haver been a must win 3 points. it wasn't. major changes required at the back,in midfield and someone absolutely clinical up front. i see no less than 6 players going including lee, whelp dale, barrett, fagan, prob the midfielder from accrington whose name escapes me and the loanees returning. we lost against some poor sides and this was only partly mollified by a wonderful home victory v wolves.

Rather fitting that our last act at Priestfield this campaign was to concede a late equaliser. An undistinguished result against a mediocre side. Unfortunately while the present chairman remains in place it's this until forever. "I'm Gillingham 'til i die" has never sounded more depressing. I always thought that when I retire, one of the benefits would be more time to get to games. Probably not !

I didn't go Saturday for the exact reason that I didn't expect either team to be busting a gut. I've seen it other years (admittedly not over the last few as we've always had something to go for, and last year we were champions ,and I wanted to see the celebrations) and its not worth the petrol money to go. I'm working out now, whether to renew my season ticket, because I'm going to miss least 2 games when I'm on holiday in September, 1 game at Christmas, and if we're middle of the table and going no-where in April, I'll miss some games then. It looks as if you can only miss about 3 games and then it's cheaper to pay as you go. The so called incentives in the season ticket book, don't mean much to me.

Not being a season ticket holder I can't comment fully but I always felt the incentives were a bit restrictive. As a father I would use the cheap ticket offer but many families might have a ticket for the whole family so there would be a lot of discounted tickets that could never be used. Then there are the single fan who also couldn't make use of them.

I think the club should issue two types, perhaps an away one and a family one. Those that don't have young ones and go to away games could benefit and vice versa so more are happy. We have such a great away following but we don't appear to reward them adequately.

As for season tickets I think they are still great value. For a Rainham End ticket at £355, you could miss 6 games (provided you would be paying the advanced match price of £21) and pay the same over the season. At the full day price of £24 you could miss 8 games.
