Kent Senior Cup

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Thu Jul 31, 2014 6:17 pm

Gillingham have been drawn at home to Dartford in the second round of the Kent Senior Cup.I am surprised we`re playing at Priestfield as other years we have been away. The Club will need to advertise well and maybe add a few squad players in the squad to get fans interested in going.I expect opening up the Rainham End might help the attendance as well.Dartford might bring a few as it is a new ground for many of their Fans.

Like KFG I am also surprised that Gillingham are playing Dartford at home in The Kent Senior Cup, the last three season's have seen Gillingham play away ties in the competition and when the draw was made yesterday I just assumed that Gillingham will be playing Dartford at Princes Park.

Gillingham will need to make the Kent Senior Cup appealing for supporters to come and watch with a number of incentives, free entry for Season Ticket Holders and £5 for non Season Ticket Holders, have The Rainham End open for Gillingham Supporters and anyone under £16 can get in for £1, get the youngsters interested in supporting there local football team.

I don't think they will. It isn't classed as a first team fixture and as such it would get a very small crowd. After all Trophy matches only bring in around 1,800 fans and that's a senior cup competition that culminates in a Wembley appearance. These matches barely make a profit so sometimes it is better to make smaller games unappealing so barely anyone comes rather than pay for extra staff and not cover costs.

Gillingham will play Dartford at home on Wednesday The 10th of December in The Second Round of The Kent Senior Cup, with Gillingham moving The Football League Trophy Match to a Saturday Afternoon it meant that there was a spare mid-week available to arrange this match, also this match is arranged for the mid-week after Dartford travel to Bradford City so they can fully concentrate on preparing for there first FA Cup Second Round Tie in more then thirty years.
