Gillingham v Crewe-Match Thread

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Wed Aug 27, 2014 8:46 pm

Back to the bread and butter on Saturday as we play Crewe at Priestfield.Crewe have not won in the League yet this season, and sit bottom of the league on 0 points. The only problem is Crewe have a great recent record at Priestfield and have won all four of their last four last trips to Gillingham.I think we need to be winning these kind of games at Home,as Crewe are going to be in the mini-League of Teams fighting to stay up like us.Hopefully with kids for a quid we can get a 7,000 crowd which will spurr Gills on to win.

What Team would you play?

Defiantly would not have a keeper or any defenders on the field, they score to many goals for the other teams, and certainly not the 3-5-2 formation PT started and didn't change til the Newcastle game was almost over.
Think if I was Scally I would put up a bonus of a hundred quid for each shot that either goes in or their keeper has to save, then perhaps we will have more than 5 shots (2 on goal) in a game.
Come on GILLINGHAM, get your fingers out and lets get this thing jump started, time for a big 3 or 4-0 win.

Some interesting facts about the game can be found in the stats section.

It can't be another wacky scoreline and the odds of them making it 5 out of 5 away from home must be very small indeed. I can see them parking the bus to halt their run of losing all 4 league games this season.

I think Gillingham will line up as follows.......................

----------------------------Bywater-----------------------------------
Hoyte--------------Legge---------------Egan-------------------Hause
-------------------A.Morris----------Hessenthaler---------------------
McGlashan-------------------Dack----------------------------Dickenson
----------------------------Kedwell------------------------------------

Subs: G.Morris (GK), Fish, Davies, Pritchard, Norris, German, McDonald

On Tuesday Night against Newcastle United Gillingham sat deep to ensure that we stayed in the tie and kept the match competitive, but tomorrow I think Gillingham need to be in the ascendancy and we need to attack Crewe Alexandra's weak back-line (yes we have a poor defence too) but we have played MK Dons, Barnsley and Swindon Town and they are going to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season, attack is also the best form of defence and we do need to go for it, but at the same-time we need the security of a fifth midfielder to ensure we don't lose the midfield battle.

I hope Peter Taylor was saving Jermaine McGlashan and Brennan Dickenson for tomorrow's match which might explain why they did not play against Newcastle United on Tuesday Night, they both have to start or be on the bench because those two are the only two wide players we have got in the side, if McGlashan starts and we have a central midfielder on the left then the entire midfield becomes unbalanced, just like it was away at MK Dons on the opening day of the season.

Another problem Gillingham have got tomorrow is that we will go from a 10,206 attendance which created a lot of noise and atmosphere against Newcastle United, To a 5,200 for tomorrow's all important League One clash against Crewe Alexandra and that is probably the biggest thing the players are going to have to contend with, because the atmosphere will be flat and nervous, and it will be a lot like The Tranmere Rovers Home Match Last Season where we knew only a win will do.

Any win will do tomorrow just as long as we win, it be nice to win by a few goals but if Gillingham keep picking up points then we don't have to worry as much about our goal difference - COME ON THE GILLS!!!!!!!

I think Kedwell, and McDonald will both start as Taylor took both of them off around 60 minutes, which indicates he was saving them for Saturday.I think McGlashan will start as well, and Hoyte may start instead of Fish.

I wasn`t at the game, and couldn`t listen as I was at Legoland with the Family. It was nice to come home and find out that Gills have won,and kept a clean sheet. It does look like we more than deserved the win against a struggling side.I have seen the highlights and Dack`s goal was a great curler, and Cody did well to see his goal through.Really poor defending from Crewe though. It was good to see us passing the ball around well in the five minute highlights.Seven points from a possible twelve, and a cup win at Yeovil, and also playing Newcastle. We can be pleased with our start to the season.

Also it was good to finally end our poor home run against Crewe!

Not sure I have ever seen such a woeful and inept performance from an away side, they look in severe trouble. But then they did last season and had a tremendous final run in. We looked in control throughout and really should have won by 4 or 5.

Gary - you need to get to one of our away games some time soon - you'll soon think that Crewe were a team of world beaters ;-) ;-)

Think were seeing what our season is going to be, beat the teams in the lower half of the division, then we get beaten by the teams in the top half and we end up somewhere around 14th come May, in other words another awe inspiring season coming up in the life of a GFC fan, hopefully we get a nice home game in the 3rd round of the Cup.
