Interesting Article from Chris Dunlavy in The Football League Paper.....

"""""Gillingham Boss Peter Taylor say's he would "understand" if chairman Paul Scally gave him the chop after a run of one win in twelve games.

I Wouldn't, though a Championship Club as recently as 2005, The Gills have spent three of the last seven season's in League One, They Didn't survive the last two and don't look much like staying up this time either.

To Me, that looks less like the manager is unfit for purpose and more like the club hasn't got the cash to support life in The Third Tier.""""""

What does everyone on here think about Chris Dunlavy's in The Football League Paper ???

I think we can survive mid table most seasons in this league with our budget. How come Clubs like Yeovil with less crowds and less budget can stay in League one each season? Also Rochdale who have the lowest budget in the League according to Keith Hill are looking good to stay up this season and are pushing for the Playoffs.

You hire a manager who understands that the X number of pounds allotted for players means you have to get the best available and work with them , something I think Peter Taylor and someone like our Harry at QPR don't seem to understand, they seem to think they can bring in their players in the summer and if things don't work out they will get another X amount of money to buy new players at Christmas.
I do not for one second believe the players at GFC are not perfectly capable of being a top ten side in Division One, but after a while the negativity of a Peter Taylor, a Hessy and a Paul Scally to name but a few, begins to rub off on them, and they no longer want to give a 100% effort for GFC, that is patently obvious if you look at the results, they look as if they have already thrown the towel in and are just happy to see a pay check each week and wait for the season to end.
This is why a younger ENTHUSIASTIC manager should be bought in, an experienced General Manager should be employed to take the pressure off him and the others should all be sent down the road.

I agree with some of that, but we brought in a young and ambitious manager and the fans got the ache because he was just that. Then we brought back an icon who got away with average for just that reason. M.A. comes in and changes things round, but starts (as seems the norm) starts upsetting all and sundry. We now have an experienced older manager who has a chequered history, but who actually achieved something at the club that no one else has ever done, so it might have seemed a good call.
I still maintain that our Championship years ruined too many of our fans and created n expectation level that is not really possible to achieve. Since 2005 the atmosphere has declined and the turn round of players just seems to increase. The club has ups and downs and for generations fans have dealt with that in a way that said we are The Gills. Now it seems as though too many think we are capable in our present incarnation to be a Championship club.
Yes bring in an ambitious young manager, but when he arrives let's get behind him even if he comes from non-league and give the players room to breathe. Negativity from fans effects even the best players let alone those starting out and negativity effects managers because they (unless they are the strongest of the strong) feel the pressure first especially at the lower level.
Scally is a problem, but unless someone else comes along and really believes in our potential we are stuck with the Millwall loving idiot for the time being. I win the Euros I will buy the club, but can you imagine the upset from some quarters. Football is all about opinions (unless you are winning things) and opinions are like a**eholes everyone has one.
