Gillingham v Bristol City-Match Thread

Postby Kent_UckyFriedGills » Sat Dec 27, 2014 8:11 pm

The games come thick and fast this time of the year, and Gills are back at home tomorrow where we take on League leaders Bristol City.City have a few injury concerns to key players, but it will still be a tough game. They pass the ball and keep it really well.If you offered me a point now then I would take it.

Yeah your not joking, every point is going to be very precious this season. I hate the schedule thats coming up, Feb could be a Gills killer,we have not made hay when the sun shone, I hope I am wrong but I keep seeing us sitting on 48 points come the end of the season and thats to scary to contemplate.
Hope we get a couple of GOOD players in for the rest of the season, even yesterday's win seems a bit more luck than judgement, when it came to chances they ran us off the pitch, I don't know how Taylor let things get this bad at Preistfield Road.
It's OK bringing in young players for the future but we don't need the future to be getting back out of Division Two to where we are now, that's getting dam old.

One interesting fact was that we were on the up at this point last season yet have the same number of points at last season! The next two games took us to 26 points so just a draw against Bristol City or Port Vale and we would have the same total after 24 games as last year so we have a real opportunity to finish on more points than last season.

As always some stats for the match can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1523&p=6656#p6656

I think Gillingham will line up as follows.......................

----------------------------------Nelson--------------------------------------
Pritchard------------Legge------------------Egan---------------------Martin
--------Hessenthaler-----------Ehmer------------------Doughty-------------
McGlashan-----------------------------------------------------------Dickenson
---------------------------------Kedwell----------------------------------------

Subs: G.Morris (GK), Hoyte, Lennon, A.Morris, Linganzi, McDonald, Norris

With Bradley Dack, Danny Galbraith and Bradley Dack all likely to be out of today's match then our midfielder options are going to be limited, Amine Linganzi did not impress me with his sub appearance against Colchester United on Boxing Day, and having just made his come-back appearance in the same fixture, I am not sure that Aaron Morris can start two matches in three days and chances are that Aaron Morris will be used as a substitute and come on if we need to freshen things up in midfield.

Leon Legge, Jake Hessenthaler, Jermaine McGlashan, Brennan Dickenson and Danny Kedwell were all on the bench on Boxing Day and I think that all five players will start and that Gillingham will start with the 4.5.1 / 4.3.3 formation that we played towards the end of the game against Colchester United, as Cody McDonald was playing as a right winger, Brennan Dickenson on the left and Danny Kedwell up-front down the middle.

I rather Max Ehmer played as a defensive holding midfielder and keep the Leon Legge / John Egan defensive partnership, but I also don't want to see John Egan playing at right back with Leon Legge and Max Ehmer in the heart of our defence, one of these three either needs to be dropped or played out of position if Gillingham are to change back to four at the back in defence, I think the player who should move around is Max Ehmer as he is capable of playing as a defensive holding midfielder and Max Ehmer may have to play there if we're short in the middle of midfield.

I guess Miss Fanny Mulligans post just about sums up GFC , were where we were last year so everything is great, right? Yup the worlds a wonderful place, everything is fine I guess ending up 17th and avoiding relegation by a couple of wins makes it a successful season , and if we do the same this year everything will be hunky dory at Priestfield.
Thanks BC that result whilst never really in doubt makes it even more difficult for us to stay up?? Give us a present for New Year Scally get rid of Taylor now.

You talk like you have never seen a Gills season in your life! Progress isn't earning promotion every season otherwise the top divisions would be a 250 team one! The cold facts are that we look like having more points (not many but a few), we have scored more goals and conceded less. Whilst it is hardly exciting, it IS progress. Now if this was any season I would agree that it isn't good enough but this is occurring with virtually a whole new side, a very young side with a couple possibly being the best players we have had for a long time.

Time will tell but progress takes a long time. Taylor has made some baffling decisions, some performances have been down-right awful but have I seen a lot worse of course I have! Again the system was wrong in the first half by which point the game was lost but Taylor changed it and the game altered significantly. He has rectified it in 3 of the last 5 or 6 matches so credit there but you have to question why he insists on sticking with it in the first place!

No old darling it doesn't work like that, only three go up and they replace the three that get relegated,it's not hard to understand, the leagues keep the same number of teams each year.
Listen young man I am getting old, I need GILLINGHAM to be promoted to the Championship Division, then the Premier Division, relegation one more time and my poor heart might not be able to take it, I could be dead before they get promoted again.
It's Ok for you you young punk, you've got years and years ahead of you, I HAVEN'T,remember that. I need to see GILLINGHAM FC play in the Premier Division, even if it's just for one rotten stinking season, then my life will be complete and I will be able to die a happy man.
Mark my words Mr. if I pass before that one mighty season, that one dream season of Premiership footie it will be you,yes YOU that I will haunt for the rest of your days, sitting on top of your wardrobe rattling my chains, see what happens to your love life then buddy boy.

I only listened to the game but they kept saying how well City kept the ball.I know they did that well in the Cup defeat in November.I never expected much, but it seemed like again Taylor picked the wrong tactics and Team, and only realises at half-time.Once he did that it had an instant effect and Cody scored out of nothing to give us hope.It was a shame we could not get the equaliser, but looking at the highlights City`s third and killer of a goal was a very well worked goal and finished well by Wagstaff.

The defeat makes me feel less confident of getting through over two legs against City in the JPT now. They have beaten us comfortably with keeping the ball, and winning the match twice already.

With two away games coming up now,I think we can do with getting four points at least.
