I can't believe this! He was the only player that gave the side oooomph after Charlie Lee left. Who is there with guile and grit to dig in when needed? He must surely still have a role to play at the club......unless he already knows who the next boss will be. Good luck to him, family reasons were given but I can't see how Ebbsfleet would pay more than us!

Family reasons it was, fly on the wall says the wife and kids were fed up with being shouted at and the cat said thank goodness, one more Kick in the butt from him and I would have been out of here, now the house is once again a happy home. Guys a glutton for punishment ,gone from a club managed by committee to a team owned and managed by committee, lol. Out of interest which division do they actually play in the Saturday or Sunday pub league ??
Year or two playing there and getting some management experience and then he will be moving on, just think in 5 years he could be back here as manager of Maidstone or Dartford playing Gillingham in another local derby.

I always thought that either in this January Transfer Window or in the summer we needed to push Danny Kedwell further down the striker pecking order list at Gillingham and sign better quality strikers to be our first choice strike-force, that left Danny Kedwell with two options 1. Stay at Gillingham and fight for his place in the match day squad and make do with the sub appearances he was making against Port Vale this weekend or 2. decide that his future lies away from Priestfield Stadium and play competitive first team football at another football club - and Danny Kedwell has chosen the latter, and you can never moan or complain about a player making a footballing decision and moving to get more game-time elsewhere.

I have heard so many rumours over the past few months about Danny Kedwell, but the rumours I thought made more sense was Peter Taylor wanting to change the playing style at Gillingham and build the squad around young players who either have sell on potential or players who can take Gillingham into The Championship within 3-4 years and I thought that made more sense then suggestions of a bust up or Danny Kedwell wanting to play in every single game.

Two bad injuries and Danny Kedwell being 31 also suggests that League One Football might well be beyond Danny Kedwell's capabilities and a move to Ebbsfleet United will give Danny Kedwell the competitive first team football he wants, he will still live locally, Danny Kedwell has the security of a 18 month contract and maybe Ebbsfleet United's ambitions of climbing from Conference South to League Two is one that appeals to Danny Kedwell - as AFC Wimbledon achieved back to back promotions to reach The Football League and perhaps Danny Kedwell feels that Ebbsfleet United can replicate what AFC Wimbledon achieved a few season's a go.

I wish Danny Kedwell all the best at Ebbsfleet United and thank him for his efforts at Gillingham Football Club - I think this move is right for Gillingham, right for Ebbsfleet United and right for Danny Kedwell - I am sure that Ebbsfleet United have basically just taken over the contract we offered Danny Kedwell in the summer because they have the finances in place to match wages paid towards Football League Players.

It was very surprising news to find this afternoon. There has been rumours going around for weeks about Kedwell leaving, but I was surprised he has dropped three levels to the Conference South.Saying that Ebbsfleet are really ambitious and Kewell will be on around £2,000 a week which is a massive amount for that Level.I wish Kedwell all the best for the future, and thank him for all his effort.

Well done fanny. Just a shame you were so keen to get rid of a consistent scorer and a 100% player; oh and how dare someone of 31 still be playing above Conference level. Hang your boots up Van Persie, Xavi, Lampard, Carrick you are now too old.

FOM please learn to use 'he' and ''him', your posts are becoming unreadable. Just out of interest I agree with Elgrande on the matter of Kedwell. Who apart from Cody has got any credentials to be picked as a front man before him ?

I saw Kedwell in the ROKO gym pre season. He was working his socks off, desperate to be fit for the new season and do well.

He did. He started the season well and prior to injury was our top scorer. Always gave 100% if not more. Devastated he has gone.

We are only a couple of points above the relegation zone and we have played more games..........WHY OH WHY would you get rid of one of the few people who seem to score for you and give you everything.

Dark day for me Gutted.

From a reliable source, no name for obvious reasons, but Keds has been going out for late nights and having too good a time recently, especially when injured. This has annoyed the management team and PS and there was a bust up. I think he has had to work harder than most over the last few years to maintain fitness, body shape etc. and he has got fed up with doing that and then not getting a game. His new club will suit him for all sorts of reasons and I wish him well.

The difference is that Frank Lampard, Michael Carrick, Robin Van Persie and Xavi are all top top players and Michael Carrick and Frank Lampard have adapted there roles to continue playing as they have gotten older.

I did not for one minute suggest that once a player is past thirty they should call it quits, but Danny Kedwell has had two bad injuries this year and those injuries have taken that all running style out of Danny Kedwell's game where he would close the opposition down and chase lost causes, I don't think we should let The "Kedwell's One Of Us Chants" Disguise the fact that League One is beyond Danny Kedwell's capabilities this season and I think Peter Taylor regretted not keeping Adebayo Akinfenwa in the summer, because Adebayo Akinfenwa was causing Liverpool's defence all sorts of problems and we have defiantly missed the combination play between Akinfenwa and McDonald up-front this season.

Then there were the constant off the field rumours about Peter Taylor wanting to build a young team with players who have sell on potential, and players who could take Gillingham into The Championship in 3-4 years and Danny Kedwell doesn't fit into either scenario, there were rumours of bust ups with Doug Loft and Peter Taylor (how true those two rumours were I am not entirely sure), but there was constant rumours and speculation about Danny Kedwell's future at Gillingham Football Club for the past 3-4 months, and in the end I think this is the right move for Gillingham, the right move for Danny Kedwell, and with the wage bill freed up, the next Gillingham Manager can bring in his own players.

Also Danny Kedwell has dropped three divisions to play for Ebbsfleet United, OK Ebbsfleet United are paying the same wages to Danny Kedwell for what Gillingham were paying him and Danny Kedwell doesn't have to move house, but a three division drop is still quite a drop no matter how much money your being offered - were there really offers from Cambridge United, Luton Town and Portsmouth or was The Ebbsfleet United offer the only offer on the table ???

I think Danny Kedwell has been a fantastic servant to Gillingham Football Club and there are so many highlights of Danny Kedwell's performances in a Gillingham Shirt, the goals against Torquay United and AFC Wimbledon to win promotion and The League Two Title stick out, but Danny Kedwell signing for Ebbsfleet United is the right move for everyone and maybe the challenge of taking Ebbsfleet United into The Football League is a challenge that Kedwell wants to take on, because League One Survival and ending mid-table is probably as high as we can go at the moment.

Firstly, he is past the best player he has been for us, secondly injuries have taken their toll and every fan on every forum seems to be stating we need another goal-scorer so it makes sense. That said I am very sad he has left. He gave us something different, an edge and there is no leader in that side that can take his place. Loft should be but is too quiet. Lee and Kedwell really gave the side a fight we no longer have and whilst I don't think Danny was a serious attacking option I do feel he would have been perfect in a midfield role between the strikers.

Scally mentioned in the interview about sacking Taylor that a player played who shouldn't have, perhaps this was Kedwell. I heard he had starting smoking more when injured which impeded his ability a touch, perhaps this was what Scally was alluding to as we wouldn't normally let a player wanted by another club simply walk out on their contract.

The weird bits are Danny stating he wanted first team football even though the new manager hasn't been appointed to say he wasn't needed. Also he said he had to consider his family and yet he won't be paid more so would have earned more even if sitting on a bench at the Gills. Perhaps they offered him a long term contract and he couldn't risk falling out of football in the summer?

It definitely sounds like a lot of stuff was going on behind the scenes but it leaves a big hole that I don't feel the club will fill very easily at all!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27377643 - Danny Kedwell agreed a two year contract extension with Gillingham last summer, so the eighteen month contract offer from Ebbsfleet United means they have basically taken over the contract Gillingham offered to Danny Kedwell in the first place.

Blimey! Maybe its because he is a massive Gills fan but when has a club just written off a contract? I really doubt Ebbsfleet paid us a fee for him and I also doubt they pay him more so not sure why he would take a pay cut to play more games "for the security of his family"????
