Chairman speaks!

Postby lidbid46 » Tue Jan 13, 2015 11:54 am

Interesting letter from Mr Scally on the official site today. Looks like he may have been reading our forum! Gills fan, you aren't really PS are you?! Anyway, looks like we have to wait for a new manager and it isn't going to be any of the fantastic four!

' I was left with no option' ...how many times are we going to hear this from Scally ? Always pretending that events have nothing to do with him and just happen like acts of God, implying that PT did or said something so outrageous that Mr. Paul 'ethics' Scally had to assume his position on the pedestal and pronounce judgement.

Scally is an habitual and proven liar, an established racist, a serial litigator ( he ALWAYS loses )...how dare he adopt this pious tone ?

As for the rest of the tosh in that letter, for example 'a mini-team' of four equals managing and selecting a football team, more likely a group of no-hopers desperate to keep their jobs if we ever get another manager. Scally implies that PT acted in a completely unpredictable way - well, who appointed the man ? It wasn't even the first time around so he can hardly claim he didn't know the character. I suspect that Taylor finally stood up for himself and that was that. So ends the tenure of all our managers.

What a laughing stock we are !!!

What a farce! Taylor has been sacked two weeks and he still has not met any potential Manager yet. This should have been sorted quickly once Taylor was sacked. The January Window shuts in a couple of weeks, and we have work to do in that area. It`s not like we`re getting results so we can take our time! Fair play to Scally for keeping us updated, but this should be sorted quickly when we sit in a poor position in the League.Fans can send their suggestions to the Club, shouldn`t the Club already know who they would like as Manager?

The fans can suggest managers....that's novel. May I suggest Alex Ferguson, Pep Gaurdiola or Jose Mourinho please? No? Well why ask then? It's ludicrous. OK, I accept that the sacking may well have come out of the blue but in the world of football it is quite novel as basically you just have to sit on your bum and wait for your next manager to either come to you or be recommended to you, the only hard bit being choosing the right candidate or agreeing favourable enough terms. So this letter basically says that being in the relegation zone in January is fine and there is no cause for rushing. Well correct I suppose we are only a win away from not being in it but it will take time, we have lost players that will have to be replaced with 2 weeks left.

He will have had plenty of applicants, even if the chairman was the most vilified person on Earth there would still be plenty wanting to do it so why has he ignored them thus far? Why only now will they be wittled down?? Mr Scally, don't bother. Pick 5 or 6 that you know could do the job and pick your favourite after and let's end this embarrassing saga now. Coventry fans must be laughing their socks off and their team confident of another 3 points. I don't think we would be in this mess if Taylor was still in charge.

James Beattie was on Radio 4 this morning talking about Saints, Everton cup ties and was asked about the GFC job. He said he had applied, was interested but hadn't heard from the club. Now that's what I call an impressive ,pro-active stance from the Chairman.

I don't see too much wrong with the statement from Mr Scally - would we not have all been critical had a man been put in place in an instant. We would have all said its a rushed appointment and not been properly thought through.

If you think not even acknowledging a serious application is a professional response I guess you're not in HR. I'm not suggesting he should be appointed, I 'm saying there's no evidence that we're getting on with replacing the Manager at a time when we are looking down the barrel of relegation.
Perhaps it's a hot day in the desert.

I bet we've all applied for jobs and not been acknowledged; I know it doesn't make it right but its the way it seems to happen these days

I went for a job where they knew me and didn't even get an acknowledgement so I wouldn't go much by that!!! Have to give Scally the benefit of the doubt on this one, he did state he would go through the process of whittling them down over the next few days so quite possible he hasn't heard because he could be about to be called to interview! The concern is that this process should have been concluded days ago not be about to start!

We're not talking about some minor administrative inefficiency here, this is the Manager's job at a league 1 football club, which is clearly in crisis. I don't believe we have so many high quality applicants that it's impossible even to start the process. Scally claims he has a specific profile in mind, so let's give him 'the benefit of the doubt' and say there are 10-12 applicants who fit the bill. WTF isn't Scally ensconced in his plush office talking to them ?

'We've all applied for jobs and heard nothing' ...right and what conclusions would you draw about the organisation concerned ? That is is unprepared to deal with applications ?, That it is inefficient ? That it has been 'overwhelmed' by the numbers of applicants ? Or, just maybe that there is a 'candidate' already given the nod and that this process is simply going through the motions.

That is the worry isn't it although I did fear it would be Lovell so at least they appear to be out of the equation. It really doesn't matter where Scally is in the world (I bet Gwen is doing it all anyway), with modern technology we should need a waiting list and this should all be over by now. Heck he could ring most of them and invite his favourites after. Many have suggested we have got rid of players and will bring in a manager after the window closes, how could we possibly compete then?

I tend to agree with Rimshot on this one.

Do not forget Scally has said he is still actively looking for an investor and new ground (now pick yourself up off of the floor and stop laughing) but that we needed to be a division 1 team to achieve this.

Whatever that phone conversation with PT was, it was his decision to sack him at a crucial time for the football club. He must know that as a club we are in trouble. Big trouble, and with the transfer window closing in a couple
of weeks I would have thought it was imperative that somebody not anybody was in place sooner rather than later. That manager could then maybe make some signings and help us retain our div 1 status and then obviously pave
the way for our brand new stadium and investor.

Lets be honest about this. This is not just any job. This is not applying for a warehouse managers job, or forklift truck driver. If you are told you have had 15 people apply you must be able to whittle them down fairly quickly. Like in my mind James Beattie (no cv, just accrington stanley and he didnt do anything) Shefti Kuqui (managed a foreign team at a level probably at the same level as Kent sunday football) would be wiped off the 15 within 30 seconds of me seeing their names.

You would like to think you could get down to just 3 or 4 fairly quickly. Then follow that up with any manager that has been on your radar in the lower leagues. We wont pay the bigger money so it has to be. A quick email, phone call to the agents to see if they would welcome an interest and bobs your uncle.

So far on the first week day of sacking PT and hearing potential suitors you should have a fairly small list. You then drain the clubs bank accounts even further by flying back to the UK on first class and set about doing interviews.

Instead 2 weeks later, he tells us he is going to start the process.

Shoddy just shoddy

Totally agree. Even if he isn't there Gwen is and if he can watch matches in Dubai I'm sure he can manage a video call! There is a reason he is holding off, either waiting for his preferred option to quit and come to us or trying to do it all on the cheap. Not sure which. ;-)

Isn't it funny how easy football is on the computer, no worry about finances, player/manager availability, weekly gate receipts.

Let's look at a manager applying for the position who has 2 years experience of management, his win rate is 28.97%, the team has finished 17th in both years, since leaving he's been out of work for a year.
On the face of it not the best candidate for the job, I am of course talking about tony Pulis.

Not easy is it. :?
