Here is hoping this appointment works out. At our level of football it is hard to work out what will or what wont be a good appointment. I am glad that we have given somebody fairly new a chance rather than a recycled manager who has flitted around several clubs in the lower divisions.

What will be interesting is the formation. Being deep in the relegation mire playing 5 3 2 and being so so so boring to watch, it was at least refreshing to watching us under the group of 4, playing a traditional formation, we have pulled ourselves up clear of immediate danger and been much more enjoyable to watch.

The key for me, is that the group of 4 have been playing players in the correct positions. I personally think there have been very few successful utility players over the years. You put an average player in his correct position and he will generally out perform a better player covering in a position in my opinion.

The new manager has my support and here is hoping he can do something. The really scary thing about all of this is we are now as close to the play off's as we are to relegation.

Mentally I think as gill's fans we are glass half empty kinda people because of the last few years. We are talking about a difficult month because of facing Sheff Utd and Peterborough etc etc. Well we have beaten Sheff Utd and we are now only 3 points behind peterborough so they are obviously not as good as we are giving them credit for.

Good luck to the new manager and thank you for the gang of four. I wont hide, I was horrified by the decision to have 4 people in charge, yet full credit to them they have done a good job.

I said a while back that I felt the players were capable if they played enough and in their correct positions. Performances out-did the statistics and that results would turn. Ironically it looked like they were when Taylor was sacked and that's when I worried the most, suddenly were plunged into disarray just as we started to improve. The GO4 did superbly to take that further and now we look like I thought we could. If Edinburgh takes us on another level then there are great times ahead but I'm not sure we have had a situation where the new manager could actually come in and make it all worse!!! A couple of defeats and his tenure could get very awkward. Keeping Hessy and Lovell in place will help negate that if he listens to them.

I think he will be a could appointment. Some of our fans have been about as negative as they come and many are now slating Scally for "spending a million" on him rather than players!!! Even after a good win and a good new manager its still finding things to moan about. Nothing like not letting facts get in the way of a good old moan!

Trouble is this is the sort of comment that sums up the problem he will have. This is from the Maidstone Utd paper The KM online.

Sorry but I'm struggling to get the point of this appointment
It's not a trainee manager we wanted but a proper fully paid up professional

I'm a young manager with a lot to learn
I don't think there's a lot to change
Hess has managed in the Championship and I can learn from that

The GoFwe're doing a good job as recent games have proved and not sure what JE can bring to the table
It's an opinion so don't all start whining
Just asking if this appointment was necessary

Necessary or not Mr Edinburgh has been appointed and we really need to rally round whether we agree or not. I, personally, have mixed feelings, but will not let it diminish my support for the club. let's look for safety and stability and then let'ssee where the journey takes us

As for Mr Scally he's damned if he does and damned if doesn't.

Personally , I would have left things just as they were till the end of the season. Now poor old Glasgow comes in here as the new Manager for just about the toughest part of the season, and although Pet'boro are not as strong as I thought they would be, our away record is pretty dam abysmal, I would be happy to come away with a point on Tuesday
Realistically I can see us picking up a point at Yeovil , three against Barnsley and what the hell makes Doncaster such a great away team.
I didn't expect us to bring much out of Saturdays game, those three points were great to put in the bag so who knows, maybe were playing up to the competition.
I was just watching the goals from Saturdays game, the first one was great, the second was a bit lucky, the way the ball bounced for the Gills and the fact Sheffield were pushing forward looking for an equalizer, but really well taken, great cross, cool when he got to the box, hope we pick up points in the next two games.
As for Scally I guess he has done the right thing and I don't think there is any doubt everyone will support the new Manager, but a run of bad results over the next few weeks God forbid could make his life a wee bit unpleasant. BUT that is not going to happen, the BIG BLUE MEAN MACHINE are on the rise, GO GILLS.

There is no doubt the fans will get behind the new manager???? Not on previous. I would guess that there are a good percentage of our "fans" who for some reason think we should be getting Hoddle, Redknapp. Souness et al.
Not a bad appointment as managers go. Served a non-league term, went to League 2 and even went abroad for that so let's give him a chance (I know that won't happen) and see what happens.

Scally has been in a tricky position, partly brought on by himself after how long he left it. He could easily left things as they are as many called for but eventually it would have gone wrong as these people have their own jobs to do. Then the accusations would start about Scally pocketing the money and doing things on the cheap by not appointing a manager. He is being slated by many now for bringing the manager in so I concur with Cadbury entirely. He will give a lift to the club even if only a tiny bit which, given our recent form, could send us up the table. Sides that end well often carry that form into the following season and I still stand by what I said a while ago that sides that do well in this league have been in it for a while. Perhaps this is the catalyst for a great season next term. The start is crucial for that to happen and he won't get a much more difficult one!

I think Leyton Orient prove the exception to that rule, Garawa

Perhaps not as they finished the previous season to last strongly and last season continued from that. You kind of felt if they didn't do it last season their chance would have gone, they could never keep up that sort of form and its a wonder they did it for as long as they did!

Good for me as a Spurs fan before I saw the light and became a true blue! My son has still got a 'Big Head' model of JE in full Spurs kit. Anyone else remember Big Heads? I wonder where I could take it to have the kit changed?

I think this could be a decent appointment... one thing we know Mr S won't have paid big bucks but JE has got a potential career to carve out. He's done well in his previous post so there is a bit of forward momentum in his CV.

Who knows what it's like to work at Priestfield ? Evidence suggests you get nowhere with Scally by standing up for yourself but football managers need to have some cojones to establish who runs the side.

Good luck ! Let's give the guy a decent run at the job.

Here are Justin Edinburgh`s comments about Gillingham`s potential “It’s a fact that Gillingham can easily attract 9,000 people when things are going well and in terms of the catchment area and the potential, I think it’s massive. There are so many people in Kent and Gillingham are pretty much a one county team."
