Old Match Day Programme's

Postby fan_of_mulligan » Mon Feb 09, 2015 8:11 pm

At Walsall, there is this old Match Day Programme Shop near the away end and while I was in there I brought two Gillingham Match Day Programme's for £1.

Both programme's are from 1966 against Reading and Bristol Rovers respectively, Diane was going to buy the entire shop :D

My Match Day Programme's are from 2005 up to the current day, but I am sure many of you on here must have Match Day Programme's from The 1970's, 1980's and 1990's.

Final Two Questions:

1. What was the first match day programme you had ever brought ???

2. Which is the one match day programme in your collection that you treasure the most ???

I have a 1966 World Cup final one which is pretty cool. I only started getting them recently and if anyone has any from the mid-90s there are a couple of pages I could do with being scanned and put on here!!!

I buy a Match programme for every game I go to.I have about 120 since I started watching Gills in 2003.The first programme I brought was against West Brom at Priestfield in the 2003/2004 season.I will say the Gills v Shrewsbury one is my favourite programme out of all of them.It was a special occasion at Wembley.

First programme I bought was Gillingham Tamworth in the FA Cup in 68 (I think) Haven't kept any. I also had the programme from Johnny Simpsons Testimonial against Palace. I am sure Derek Dougan guested that game.

Derek Dougan now that was a player. I always used to like him. With all the greats that were around at the time, for some strange reason I used to be keen to hear about him.

One of the first Programmes I bought that I still have was home to Torquay in about 1968 I think. I bought a load of programmes (mostly away) from a lad at school for 2/6, and in the collection was an issue from a third round FA Cup tie at Nottingham Forest from 1957 which the Gills lost 3-1. Like Lidbid, I stopped buying the programme a while back, mainly because it was turning more into a general football magazine with a price to match, and because they were just ending up stored in the loft with the rest of my old programmes. My favourite feature of the older version was 'Scrapbook of Ten Years Ago' by Roger Triggs, I think.

A 1963 Gillingham v Bury, 2nd round of the League Cup and we won 3-0 and I think the program cost me sixpence, but I am not a 100% sure. I remember hanging onto the flood lights and reading the programe before the game started.
