New Set Up

I am not sure about the way the board is now set up; it seems that all the continuity has gone. I know Fanny used to post long reports, but it now seems that everything is a bit disjointed?

The only change has been to move the match threads into the section with all that stuff, a one-stop shop so to speak for everything you need to know from fixtures, match results, stats and people's views of the game. The Gills discussion page was becoming a list of matches with separate ones for man of the match etc and it meant posts that people might have missed dropped off the page. We have a lot of users that log in every few weeks so it helps them stay in touch. Of course if anything happens in the match you wish to discuss, starting a new thread in the Gills Discussion forum is fine. The reason it is a little quiet is possibly down to the fact we are doing well.....it always goes quiet then ha ha.

Cutting out all the links to other parts of the board was getting silly, there were links everywhere so the move was to help continuity. Hopefully people can continue posting as before and starting threads as always but if it is specifically about the match then post in the "Match Discussions" forum within the "Match Center". Eventually it will help users to find past matches much easier and to see how things have changed or to simply refer back to what was said from games ages ago without having to trawl through pages of other stuff. You can also access matches directly via the results page (although only the most recent games have moved across).

How do you think it could be improved? Personally I wish more of the posters from the old board would join in as it made discussions more varied and wide spread. Yes, even jacobamy bless him! If anyone knows anybody either from the old board or a new face I'm sure Gary would welcome them onboard.

As long as they stand by the principle of discussion (sometimes heated but that's fine) then I am happy for anyone to come on board. I have no idea who the majority of the last lot were or where they went. I know many prefer to use Facebook but this was set up primarily with 2 aims; firstly to provide a home for Noircat as Facebook cannot do that and secondly to continue the database with a view to migrate back to the official board but this looks almost certain like it will not happen.

Some hated non-Gills talk on the official board, some hated stats and nobody liked everything so I have tried to give everything a platform that doesn't impact on anything else. Removing the match threads from this forum was a big decision as it looks like a big thing is missing but in time I am sure it will be loved. I wish I had done it from the off as I would love to read back on what we said about some of the games at certain key points in our history. All I can say is start new threads, ask questions and give a reason for people to log in more often. Sadly the immediacy of a phone notification is everything these days but those that still like a quality discussion this is the only way to go.

Agree with that - I miss the likes of Posh and it surprises me that he only posts very infrequently. Perhaps we could ask former contributors just to contribute one post to say why they didn't continue with this board - assuming we even have links to them now.

I think when this board changed a few of weeks ago it was one BIG MISTAKE, Garawarawara with too much time on his hands, get a job you lay about and do something with your life, time to get off the dole buddy boy .
It used to be great having all the " GILLINGHAM STUFF " in one place, match reports, info on players, trades , what Scally said next, MILF's 16 page report on the price of coke and the 24 page blog on the game, Lidbits story of how he got lost trying to find Oxford, Klassic with a capital K , and the journey home when they found the hookers in the fog on Rochester bridge and then found it was someone he knew oh so so well lol, lol, hilarious, ( Hi Mrs L, everything OK, good) now half the time I really can't be bothered to flick around the site trying to find what I have and have not read,or where I posted and did anyone reply,(yeah like they ever do)or what was the match like, now I just go read it on ESPN.
I understand your all experts at organizing the site, and I appreciate it very much but come on not everyone is a geanie arse like what I am , think of poor old Wombat breath down in Aussie, you have to realize his lift doesn't go all the way to the top floor, give the poor guy a break will ya and lets make the site simpler AGAIN.
Sorry Aussie, I tried buddy, feel like the voice in the widerness, lol.

Ha ha, well it hasn't changed that much Chicago. You can still check to see if there are new posts but just look in the other one if its about a match. Apart from bringing other bits together that hardly anybody looked at much anyway (such as the fixtures) that was all the change entailed. Hopefully these parts would be seen more and the site might keep looking for longer instead of looking at one forum not seeing any new posts and logging out again.

As for old posters Rimshot people just get lazy. Their phone beeps to say someone has replied on Facebook and one swipe of the phone and its done. In some ways message boards are a bit pre-historic and people just navigate away to other areas but this was our only choice and for those that like a good old debate, was the best option. I know Kezz or example is on Facebook at lot more than here, thankfully Lidbid does both. We get new people joining all the time without posting and a lot of "readers" out there who never post. Perhaps some of those users might like to tell us their views?

I am one of the almost extinct dinosaurs, I don't do face book, I don't do twitter, I don't own a smart phone, yes the dying breed of over sixties Neanderthals are becoming rare but we do still exist and still rely on the forum's to keep us informed.

That's what, what, that's what ,what , what the hell was I going to say ..............OH yeah that's what I was going to say, were not all Sandie Shaw you know, sorry dinosaurs, you don't have to be old to be able to read you know. Some of us can still read something that doesn't say...........Gt Tix U Rdy, so keep the posts coming even if it's only for old Willy Wombats sake, prisoners aren't allowed phones in Australia so don't cut him off from the rest of the world,or Gillingham.
Out of interest I even talk to my wife when we have dinner ,we don't sit opposite each other at the table texting please pass the salt like some people appear to in our local restaurant , I still do it the old fashioned way, kick her shin under the table and when she looks up from grazing say hey bitch give us the salt .

I started using forums and message-boards in the early 2000's, and the reason I still use them now is because you can post long detailed posts about a particular subject and you can create different threads about different subjects and talk about each subject in one thread (EG: Cody McDonald signing a contract extension in one thread and then Oliver Muldoon signing for Gillingham in another thread).

Twitter has a 140 character limit and Facebook's Discussion Pages on Gillingham see everything go all over the place, if you wanted to see what you posted a month a go in a Facebook Discussion Forum, then that is very difficult to do, but much easier to do on here, I use both Twitter and Facebook, but I tend to use Twitter more for talking about Gillingham and occasionally post something on Facebook.

I also don't know what The Official Gillingham Message-Board was like as I was never on there.
