I wish John Marquis all the best for the future at Millwall, and you cannot be angry or begrudge the young man for deciding on doing what is best for his football career, the lure of Millwall and playing under Neil Harris was too much for John Marquis to turn down.
I also think there is every possibility that John Marquis priced himself out of a permanent move to Gillingham, because I am sure that there were several clubs in League One who were interested in signing the young striker, and the wages that were being offered to John Marquis, were going to be wages that Gillingham just cannot compete with, as we simply do not have those finances and resources, but John Marquis cannot be on big money and being a squad player who plays now and then, he needs to be playing first team football on a regular basis, that is what hurts the most about this, because John Marquis would of been playing competitive first team football, week in, week out for Gillingham Football Club.
At least this John Marquis saga didn't drag on for the next seven week's and then we find out in mid-July that John Marquis signed for Millwall, we can now turn our attention's to other transfer targets and I personally think that we need a centre forward who can play alongside Cody McDonald, two strikers would be ideal, but I think that we need to spread our resources around the entire first team squad, and especially in defence, as that is the area of the squad that needs strengthening the most.
Had Neil Harris not been appointed as Millwall Manager, I think John Marquis would of signed for Gillingham.
