Disappointed

Postby gillsfan1066 » Sun Nov 25, 2012 4:42 am

I guess a point is a point, but I honestly think we should be beating teams like Accrington even on their home turf if we are "THE TEAM TO BEAT "in this division. I am NOT trying to be negative, I am not trying to see all that is wrong in the world of GFC,I just hope I have not been looking at GFC through rose tinted specks.
I know we had good wins against Bradford (first game of the season) and Port Vale, but we seemed to have played a lot of the bottom 2/3rds of the table, about 14 of the 20 games , don't look now but here comes the top 1/3 rapidly approaching in the rear view mirror where things are closer than they appear.
YES we are NUMBER ! and it don't get no better than that and I know you don't get to pick who you play and when, you have to play them all sometime in the season, but for some unknown reason I keep having flash backs to the recent season when we went 1,635 games without a loss and seemed to slide down the table every ******* week.
Oh well never mind, it's Cup time, we all going on a football holiday no more worries for a week or two ,as Cliff and the boys sang back in the last century, time to sit back and stop biting the finger nails. Go Gills.

Unbelievable! An away draw after being reduced to10 men and people are still not happy. We've only lost !game away all season (and that was to a lucky deflected shot). I suppose it shows how far we have come but please let's not lose our grip on reality. We've lost 3 games this season and have only conceded 17 goals, the lowest in the division. If we continue the next 20 games by winning the majority of our home games and drawing the majority of our away games we'll be champions.

Absolutely. This is a game last season we would have lost easily at a place we have a bad record at, sorry a TERRIBLE record at! This point shows why we should be champions, how we still didn't lose even losing the most influential player we have in my opinion and keep earning points regardless. Maybe this is our little blip, we WILL get them and if so it bodes well for the season. Exeter was always going to be hard, a very good away side and all sides who won the league in recent seasons lost homes games.

Rather than this being a poor result, I feel it was a great one.

We're not alone, apparently Tranme re were booed off the pitch yesterday. (I think it was them, whoever is top of league one) Success breeds expectation, something, as Gills fans, we are not used to handling! :P

As a" people", no I am not happy with an away draw to a team like Stanley, a team that has only managed 3 home wins all season out of what 10 games ? This time a few of weeks ago we were 10 points clear and after the next league game we could God forbid be one point behind PV in second place. Of course on the other hand we could be five points up (please football Gods) and I realise that.
I somehow beleive Posh that if your retirement portfolio had dropped from 1,000,000 pounds to 200,000 pounds would you not be be somewhat concerned ?
Trust me as the Bishop said to the actress, I want GFC to get out of this stinking division as much as anybody, race through Division One and get back to playing the big boys in the Championship Division as much as anybody , I just feel a little unhappy when we only tie with teams like Stanley,(yes I "read "the match and know we only had 10 men ), teams that I feel a promotion contender should beat, thats all.

I agree, as the game turned out, it was a good point to come home with but we lost three bad points on Tuesday. We have only won once in 5 games. The Wright loan not taking place could haunt us for the next month because we were more secure when he was in the team. We seem to be losing form just as Port Vale are regaining theirs. We need something from the game at Rotherham, but let's enjoy the FA Cup game at Preston first.

Jeesh Goalmouth and (suprisingly to me) Gillsfan, we still have the best record in the football league you doommungers. I was very happy with a point seeing as we lost 7-4 and 4-3 there the last 2 seasons with 11 men.

Enjoy it, Port Vale will blip, we will prevail my friends.

Whats all this about last year, who caress what the hell happened last year, we might as well be discussing the great Gills win in 1960 when we beat Accrington 2-1. We have a different team, different manager, last year has nothing to do with anything .
All I am saying is we had 9 points from a possible 9 in August, 13 from 18 in both Sept and Oct. and 6 from a possible 15 in November. Now if everyone is happy with that then I am to, look at me, dancing Gangnam Style , even trying to sign PSY to play inside forward for next weeks Cup game.

If, by pointing out our current form, makes me a doom-monger then I'm guilty as charged. I think it's great that we're top of the league, but I was happier when we were seven points clear with 2 winnable games to come, than I am with us only 2 points clear and games against Rotherham away and Fleetwood home to come. I know we're 9 points clear of fourth place but I want to get promoted by winning the league.

Of course we were all happy when we were 7 points clear and I hope its that way at the end of the season. However, it is a marathon not a sprint. If this is our mid-season wobble (all teams have them) then I am more than happy as we are still picking up points. If, however, it is a dip in form, then we have a right to be concerned. I still think that an away draw is a creditable result, regardless of who we are playing. Having seen so many away defeats and depressing performances in the past, it is refreshing to see us turning up expecting a result and not just hoping fpor one! 1 defeat on the road this season tells me that we are are a changed team. OK, we have not won in 5, but we have only lost one of those games. Lets put things into perspective chaps. As long as we have enough points to avoid relegation is our 1st objective. 2nd is to get into the play-offs, 3rd is to get automatic promotion and 4th is to win the title. We are looking good on all these objectives!

In all the years I have watched football I can only remember about 6 maybe 7 occassions when a team has raced away at the start of the season to finnish it that way having continued the form throughout the whole season.

Swindon did it in div 2 a few years back newcastle did it in the championship but not many clubs do it.

Every other year we have been chuffed we are within 3 to 5 points of the play off teams at this time.

This year we are 9 points clear of the play off places..........but clear at the top of them not below them.....and ELEVEN points clear of the non play off places.

We were never going to continue this run. I personally think MA has made a couple of selection mistakes the last couple of games, but he is learning still especially with a team at the top.

The fans I have spoken to who went to the game said we played really well. It is always harder being at the top as people are always going to try harder to knock you down.

We will be fine, even if we lose the next away game I am confident that over xmas we will put the worries to bed.

Lets not panic at the very very first hurdle.

A point at Accrington is a good result, our last two trips we have been well beat and outplayed. The fact we went down to 10 men and got a point makes the result better. Our form is not as good as it was at the start, but that form was not realistic and very rarely can you keep that form up all season. We will get out of the mini slump and finish top three in my opinion.Even in this run we are still picking up points and if you do that when your not winning thats a good sign.
